Founded my Jane Carter, Cool Cat Collars is run by Jane along with a small and dedicated team of cat lovers who create stylish and unique cat accessories. With a background in farming and a creative hand in designing bridal jewellery, Jane’s designs are tested by chief tester (and family cat) Crazy.
What is your background and how did you come to be in your current career?
The main thing that has led me to my current career is my love of animals which stemmed from my farming background. I have also always had a creative urge which began by designing and making bridal jewellery.
What inspires your work?
I spend hours on the internet looking for bits and bobs, something a bit different and unusual while keeping my cat customers firmly in my mind’s eye to imagine how they would look together.
Any designers or artists that you look to for inspiration?
I suppose every work of art and design which has impressed me inspires me in some way. I love the Impressionists like Monet and the later artists such as Van Gogh. Striking designs of the Art Deco period, and wild Psychedelic Art of the 1960’s also inspires me as well as the vibrancy of African and Indian art and the simplicity of Shaker designs.
What is your favourite piece that you have created and why?
I love my Luxury of the Orient Cat Collar as it is just so fancy-feline!
What has been the highlight of your career?
I get lots of little highlights and that’s when my customers let me know that they (and their cats!) loved what they have received. It makes my day.
Favourite animal and why?
My Cocker Spaniel, Butty. She’s a star, a bit of a madam but was the most wonderful mum when she gave birth to her huge litter of 9 puppies two years ago.
Fashion item you couldn’t live without?
None, I don’t have one, I’m still a farmer at heart – so just ordinary wellies are my kind of thing. Oh, and comfy slippers, too, nowadays!
