Often considered a rite of passage during those awkward teenage years, the majority of us have had our experiences with braces.
And it appears pets are having to em-brace (sorry) the need for some extra help in the dental department too.
As February is National Pet Dental Health Month, Harborfront Hospital for Animals in Michigan, USA, wanted to raise awareness of the importance of dental health in our pets so posted a picture on their social media channels of six-month old Golden Retriever, Wesley wearing his new braces.
“Orthodontia in pets is normally not for aesthetic purposes, but because of health concerns,” said the veterinary clinic’s Facebook post.
“[Wesley] needed tooth alignment because he could not close his mouth completely, otherwise.”
Luckily for Wesley the treatment will be brief and he’ll only have to rock a mouth full of metal for a few weeks. Although judging by the picture that was posted, the adorable pup seems completely unfazed by his brace face!
If you’d like to learn more about orthodontics for dogs, or find a specialist ‘doggie dentist’ near you, talk to your vet.
