Hotel Spotlight: We love the dog-friendly Paschoe House

We love the newly-opened luxury hotel Paschoe House – and it’s super dog-friendly too! We spoke to owner Tabitha Amador-Christie about why she set up the hotel, why it is so dog-friendly and about her delightful dogs Truffle and Toffee.

“I was working in London for a high net worth family maintaining their houses and organising their affairs but always dreamt of running a hotel. Our family had bought Paschoe House as a rundown property in 2000, but it wasn’t until 2007 that we started slowly renovating it, rebuilding the Victorian walled garden and the tennis court. In 2015, my fiancé Robin and I took over running the estate and managed to get planning permission to turn it into a hotel and by the end of August 2017 it was finished!

“We wanted to create a really warm and friendly atmosphere: not pretentious at all. We love dogs so wanted it to be a lovely place for our guests to come and relax. We have two Cavalier King Charles dogs, Truffle and new puppy Toffee, who we adore and who have the complete run of the place! Dogs are welcome absolutely everywhere except the restaurant and we have 25 acres of estate for them to roam.”

The Lowdown

Paschoe House is a grade II listed manor house in the Devonshire countryside, dating back to the 13th century and situated about 25 minutes from Exeter. Super stylish and beautifully decorated with nine en-suite bedrooms, its proximity to the famous Two Moors Way footpath makes it perfect territory for you and Fido with fabulous walks on the doorstep. Resident dog Truffle will welcome you, and the team can tell you about all the dog-friendly beaches around Devon and Cornwall that can be reached in under 1 hour. Paschoe House also has 25-acres of land for you and you and your four legged friend to explore.

The Vibe

Super warm, relaxed and friendly. Everyone at Paschoe House love dogs and you can even set up a play date with resident dogs Truffle and Toffee. If you’re looking for a stay that you know is going to not only be dog-friendly, but dog-welcoming too, Paschoe House is definitely the stay for you.

The Bedrooms

Stay with your dog in either a Spacious or Sensational Room. Both rooms are large and come with an en suite bathroom, as well as being beautifully decorated in a light and fresh manner, while still representing with the hotel’s traditional roots. Expect Nespresso Machines and Bamford toiletries. Doggy beds, bowls and treats are all available.

Dining

Chef Sam Brook cooks up a storm using the best of local Devon produce, and has created a wonderful tasting menu paired with wine. Alternatively, you can opt for his equally delicious three-course dinner. Dine with your dog in the morning room or bar, or leave them in the room if you prefer.

The Bow-Wow Factor

It must be the welcome from resident dogs Truffle and puppy Toffee. They have the run of the hotel and the 25 acres of grounds, plus the abundant number of walks right on the doorstep! It’s a doggy dream.

Explore

The hotel provides walking maps of the local area to help you discover the best walks and beaches close by. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a cosy stay or if you want to get out into the local countryside.
