Designer Spotlight: Marco Morosini

Humorous and unique, Italian designer Marco Morosini’s dog designs are created purely with the pets needs in mind. Here he talks about his interesting background and what inspires his work.

What is your background and how did you come to start designing?

I studied at I.S.I.A. in Urbino and then at the Fachhochschule in Augsburg in Germany. From 1997 I worked at the No Frontiere design in Wien, then in Fabrica at the communication research centre sponsored by Benetton and directed by Oliviero Toscani. I then became Art Director at Oliviero Toscani studio and from there I spent the next 30 years as Art Director at the French newspaper Liberation. In 2001 I set up Marco Morosini Studios and for the last 12 years the firm has gained experience in design, communication and art, going on to establish partnerships and achieving excellent results. The quest for quality in every detail and experimentation are the basis of what we do. With DOG IS A GOD, I wanted to realise the dream of each dog: it started with six exclusive doghouse designs for exclusive owners.

What inspires your work?

Nature and everyday life, even just a leaf falling from a tree. I never look at design books for inspiration.

Any designers or artists that you look to for inspiration?

The people who have inspired me most are Bruno Munari (Italian artist) and Achille Castiglioni (renowned Italian industrial designer).

What is your favourite piece that you have created and why?

In 2005 I gave birth to BRANDINA, a line of handbags and accessories made with the material of sun loungers on the Italian Riviera. It is a unique product that I am very proud of as now the brand is sold in Italy and Greece.

What has been the highlight of your career?

My highlight is seeing my daughter being born. Although I was very happy when we finished renovating the Castle of Granarola. The Castle is a project that I have been working on with the aim of creating somewhere for guests to visit and find refuge from everyday life, where space, time and silence take on new forms.

Fashion item you couldn’t live without?

No item: they are all useless, except glasses!
