Friendly and enthusiastic, the Norwegian Elkhound greets family and friends very cheerfully, however they can be a bit more reserved with strangers, and their strong protective instinct means that it may be necessary to keep them on a lead around dogs they don't know.  Prone to suffering from hot spots, they may need special hot spot healing treatments to soothe these itchy, painful areas.
