PetsPyjamas’ Guide to Dog-Friendly Yorkshire

Yorkshire is a truly historic part of England first inhabited by the Celtic Britons and occupied by the Romans and Vikings. The county comprises nearly a third of the total area of national parks in the country (think Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights). These include the North York Moors, most of the Yorkshire Dales, and part of the Peak District, perfect for a dog-friendly adventure.

Also home to two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the moorlands of Nidderdale and the Howardian Hills, there are a myriad of reasons to visit Yorkshire. Experience wonderful walks in the hills, dog-friendly beaches like Cayton and Flamborough, charming villages, the famous city of York, as well as seaside towns like Whitby and Scarborough.

One of our favourite dog-friendly destinations – we’ve rounded up a collection of the very best dog-friendly places to stay. Whether you’re looking for luxury hotels, coastal retreats or country pubs with rooms, we have a fabulous range of properties where your dog will feel truly welcome. We’ve sniffed out the best places for walkies, dog-friendly attractions, and fabulous country pubs to stop off for a well-earned break. When in Yorkshire, your-legged friend will be offered treats and will have plenty of time to rub noses with other Yorkshire canines.

Make sure to visit Runswick Bay and enjoy a gorgeous two-mile walk along Runswick Bay Cliff top with wonderful views over Runswick Bay and Port Mulgrave – following the Cleveland Way  National Trail. The Rivelin Valley Nature Trail is also great for adventure-loving hounds. This is because the route takes you along the Rivelin River valley – a fantastic flat woodland walk and a perfect off-the-lead trail with waterfalls along the way.

For views of Castle Howard, visit the Arboretum situated in the Howardian Hills, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dog-Friendly Beaches in Yorkshire

Yorkshire may be famous for the moorlands and heathlands of the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, but it is equally famous for its fabulous beaches. In fact, many of Yorkshire’s beaches welcome dogs all year round. And as well as the traditional Victorian seaside Resorts of Scarborough and Whitney, there are plenty of secluded beaches and hidden coves along this Heritage coast. We definitely think they are perfect for a dog-friendly seaside escape with your four legged friend in tow.
