Why Big Dogs Make Perfect Family Pets

Ali Taylor, Head of Canine Welfare Training at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home says that while bigger dogs might be less active, they need the same training and care. “I own small and big dogs and they both need the same amount of care. I have found that my larger dogs often need less physical  exercise, but they definitely require the  same amount of training.”

Even though they’re some of the gentlest breeds, their stature and size can prove useful as a burglar-deterrant! Ali says, “Most burglars would probably think twice about breaking in when faced with a large breed on the other side of the door.”

What’s more, larger dogs can be perfect companions for older owners. “Someone older, who can’t bend as far, might prefer a larger dog to a smaller breed”, Ali advises.
