Patricia Darvell, founder of Home From Sweet Home Doggie Day Care ventures into central London and discovers a pet-friendly gem to enjoy breakfast with her dog.
If you fancy a rather self-indulgent start to the morning for you and your pooch then I can certainly recommend The Grazing Goat. With a week filled with muddy fields I rather fancied a little bit of a more genteel Saturday morning. So after seeing this dog-friendly pub advertised on PetsPyjamas.com I decided to treat my husband and Monty, our cocker spaniel, to something a little different. After an early morning ride on the central line, where Monty was spoilt rotten by the other early commuters, we arrived at Marble Arch, well before the shoppers. We strolled the short five minute walk to The Grazing Goat, which was already buzzing with regulars who knew about this little gem. Serving an la carte breakfast on the ground floor on a first come first served basis, Monday to Sunday 7.30 until 11.30am, The Grazing Goat offered the perfect relaxed but stylish atmosphere I was looking for.
We sat at a very nice table inside out of the sun’s glare however still got to enjoy the beautiful morning as they had their large windows open, giving the whole place a wonderful relaxed colonial feel to it. It is the ideal place for you to enjoy the morning papers or watch the world go by while your dog sleeps under the table – which is exactly what Monty did as soon as we got settled. The staff were lovely and didn’t seem to mind at all hopping over him! The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the waitress was very happy to ask the chef to tailor the menu slightly from Eggs Benedict to Eggs Florentine.
After breakfast, being just minutes from Hyde Park, we were able to go for a fabulous long off the lead walk, encompassing the whole park. For those who think London is no place to bring a dog think again. Put away you’re wellies put on some smart comfy shoes and literally go to town with your dog. Oh and don’t forget to have breakfast at The Grazing Goat – we will definitely be back for more.
