Follow the rules<\/strong><\/h4>\n

You’ve found some dog-friendly beaches, but the first step to a happy day with your canine companion is checking any dog-specific rules for a particular beach. Many beaches will not allow dogs, or will have strict regulations that may need advanced preparation.<\/p>\n

Stay safe in the sun<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Make sure you take precautions against the hot weather while you’re on dog-friendly beaches. Like us, short-haired dogs will need plenty of sunscreen. Apply carefully and pay special attention to hair-free areas such as the ears and nose. Pooches will also need plenty of water to stay cool and hydrated, so owners should ensure they don\u2019t forget a dog bowl<\/a> or water bottle<\/a>. Providing a fresh water supply will help to prevent drinking salt water, which can make dogs very sick.<\/p>\n

Be responsible<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The wide open spaces and loud noises that come as part of the seaside experience demand a high level of dog training and obedience. Before considering a journey to the beach, check that pooches can respond to recall commands. This is incredibly important to prevent dogs from swimming out too far into the sea or bothering other beach goers.<\/p>\n

However, no matter how well your dog is trained, keep a watchful eye on him or her at all times, checking to make sure your dog has not picked up any dangerous items or wildlife that may have washed up on shore.<\/p>\n

Pack the essentials<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For fun in the sun, allow your dog to enjoy running along the sandy shores and playing in the sea. Try a floating toy<\/a> to play fetch with for dogs that love water, or simply let lazier dogs unwind on a blanket under a parasol. To make sure your adventurous pooch is safe why not opt for a life jacket<\/a> for while they are swimming to help you relax and have peace of mind.<\/p>\n

Always make sure you’ve got a blanket \u2013 this will prevent burnt paws and skin on the hot sand \u2013 and a lead<\/a> and collar<\/a> set made from nylon; a fabric that won\u2019t get ruined by seawater and of course, every responsible owner should carry poo bags<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Be your pet\u2019s own lifeguard<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Always watch out for signs of over exertion and overheating: excessive or rapid panting and drooling, coordination problems, vomiting and diarrhoea, and loss of consciousness. Remember that running in sand is trickier than a walk on a level surface, and may cause injury to overweight or older dogs.<\/p>\n
