Cats<\/a> and dogs<\/a> have long been taking the internet by storm \u2013 and now a young raccoon named Pumpkin looks to be following suit.<\/p>\n

At just one month old, Pumpkin fell out of a tree into Rosie Kemp\u2019s back garden in Nassau, Bahamas. The cub had a broken back leg and Rosie hoped the raccoon\u2019s mother would return but sadly she never did so Rosie took her in.<\/p>\n

Unable to find a rescue home to put Pumpkin in, Rosie decided to raise the orphaned raccoon with her daughter Laura Young who has two rescue dogs<\/a>, Toffee and Oreo.<\/p>\n

“Raising her was (and still is) a full-time job,” Laura told The Dodo. “They are so unbelievably intelligent, very aware, and I would say they are even able to express emotions.”<\/p>\n

“She instantly bonded with us and our two rescue dogs and follows me and our two dogs everywhere we go.”<\/p>\n

“She now thinks she is a dog. She is able to play and be rough with them and she respects them when they have had enough,” said Laura.<\/p>\n

However, Laura added that raccoons are not pets \u2013 Pumpkin is an exception due to her difficult start to life and warned against others taking raccoons in.<\/p>\n

“They are wild animals, so they are quite moody. Unlike dogs and cats, they are not domesticated. Like a spoilt child if she doesn’t get her way, she will let you know.”<\/p>\n

One year on, Pumpkin is thriving within the Young family and has her daily adventures alongside her doggie best friends chronicled on Instagram. She now has just over 250,000 followers and we\u2019re sure the number will continue to grow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
