Blogger of Madeleine Loves<\/em>\u00a0and freelance writer, Madeleine Spencer has recently adopted her Beagle Pointer cross, Monty from Cyprus! So we caught up to find out how he’s enjoying his new forever home…\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

What are you working on at the moment?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am working on articles on beauty and travel for a couple of magazines as well as a bunch of new videos for Marie Claire. Oh \u2013 and my blog \u2013 that\u2019s always on the go!<\/p>\n

What breed is your dog and why did you choose them?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Monty is a Beagle<\/a> Pointer<\/a> cross. It was more a case of him choosing us \u2013 we got him from the Wild At Heart Foundation and as soon as we saw his huge sad eyes gazing out of the computer screen and read his back story (Monty is a rescue dog and had almost starved to death in Cyprus), we were sold.<\/p>\n

How do your friends get on with your dog?<\/strong><\/p>\n

They love him \u2013 he is exceptionally easy going and friendly which makes bonding with him no work at all! He\u2019s especially good with children \u2013 they love stroking his floppy ears.<\/p>\n

How long have you had Monty?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve had him for three months.<\/p>\n

Does he come with you to work?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m afraid he\u2019s not allowed in the studio (more\u2019s the pity!) but he comes with me to the odd meeting if we\u2019re having it in a dog-friendly place. He\u2019d clearly been told not to climb steps as a puppy and used to cower when we tried to encourage him up them but once he\u2019d navigated them confidently getting him up and down steps to the tube was easy.<\/p>\n

\"monty\"<\/p>\n

What difference has he made to your life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s had an enormous impact \u2013 I\u2019m fitter thanks to walking him twice daily, I\u2019m happier overall, and I\u2019m far less lonely when I\u2019m at home alone writing.<\/p>\n

Do you take Monty on holiday with you and if so where?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We haven\u2019t yet but I\u2019ll have to have a thumb through your dog-friendly holidays<\/a>\u00a0section \u2013 we\u2019re hoping to introduce him to the sea in Devon<\/a> or Cornwall<\/a> soon!<\/p>\n

Does Monty have any funny ways or have there been any funny incidents?<\/strong><\/p>\n

When we took him, we received lots of messages from his carers about his \u2018human\u2019 nature but we\u2019re quite sure what to make of it. Now we know: he loves to walk on his two hind legs so he can rest his front paw on your arm and tries to communicate through food, sitting dolefully by his bowl when he\u2019s hungry. He also goes on treat strikes if he\u2019s sad \u2013 I recently went to Greece for ten days and my husband told me that while he\u2019d eaten all of his normal food, he\u2019d refused his beloved chewing sticks for the duration of my absence. As soon as I got back, he resumed happily wolfing them down.<\/p>\n

Is there any reason you feel strongly about regarding pet welfare?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a combination of reasons really \u2013 animals, like children, are vulnerable and as such are easily mistreated. If an animal is adopted, it is the owner\u2019s responsibility to the pet \u2013 and to the public \u2013 to make sure it is well cared for and as integrated and happy as possible.<\/p>\n

Do you take him with you to restaurants or pubs? Any favourites?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We do! We love The Salisbury on Salisbury Road, where the bartenders bring him a bowl of water and bone before we\u2019ve managed to order drinks! We also take him to the Chiltern Firehouse for lunch and, of course, to my Dad\u2019s restaurant Tiroler Hut for dinner.<\/p>\n

Where do you exercise Monty? Any favourite parks or places?<\/strong><\/p>\n

He loves – and needs – a good run twice daily. We tend to go to Queen\u2019s Park or Hyde Park<\/a>, though he needs to stay on the lead on the former so if we\u2019re running there that\u2019s exercise for us, too! Last weekend he went to Hampstead Heath and loved dashing around on the green.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
