Pet Inspector Kiki, the Norfolk terrier, was invited to the Merry Harriers<\/a>, a super dog-friendly hotel in deepest Surrey for some summer fun, a stay in a Shepherds Hut<\/a> and a trek with some Llamas in the Surrey Hills.<\/p>\n

On this trip we were joined by our friend Anita who has South American family connections and so was particularly looking forward to meeting up with the Llamas!\u00a0<\/p>\n


Day One<\/h3>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
We set off in the early afternoon for a couple of days at dog-friendly the Merry Harriers\u00a0Inn in Surrey. It’s a pub with rooms, in an Area of Outstanding Beauty with the Surrey\u00a0Hills on the doorstep close to the picture postcard village of Hambledon.\u00a0<\/div>\n

Kiki always gets super excited when she sees her bags being packed and there was lots of tail wagging as she jumped in the car and we set off down the A3. The journey from London is very quick and almost as soon as you turn off the main road you feel immersed in the countryside.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
As we entered the Inn we received a warm welcome and Kiki got a cuddle and a treat. What more could she ask for! We were then shown to our Shepherds Huts, just across the road.\u00a0<\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/div>\n
\"\"<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n

They were beautifully equipped and luxurious with robes, hairdryers, wood burning stove, a kitchen area with sink and fridge, bathroom \u00a0plus a bottle of local sparkling wine, snacks and logs for the fire pit outside.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
For Kiki there was a bed, bowls, feeding mat, a choice of treats plus a toy. They had thought of everything to make KIki feel at home, and she settled in her bed immediately with a rope toy and a chew.\u00a0

The hotel had also supplied us with a book of walks so we immediately decided to try one out – a 2.7 mile circular circular walk around Hambledon taking you across fields, bridleways and shady woods and heathland and past the cricket green and village shop.<\/div>\n

On the way back it started to rain and we were worried that we might have got a bit lost but luckily we bumped into a group of llamas and their handlers from the hotel who assured us we were going the right way and would arrive in just a few minutes.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
In the evening we sat outside our Shepherds Hut for some wine and snacks before our dinner at the Inn. Luckily the hotel’s dining area is so dog friendly we saw two black Labradors off the lead wandering around the tables. We soon got chatting with their owners and had a lovely meal of sausages and mash and the delicious house burger.<\/div>\n

Day Two\u00a0<\/h3>\n

After a lovely night’s sleep we headed for breakfast at the Inn. We had scrambled eggs and croissants while Kiki was given her own specially cooked sausage.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Today we were off on a Llama trek. In the field next to the Inn the hotel has 11 Llamas and whilst initially Kiki seemed a bit wary, she soon became more comfortable with them and their handler, Clara, saddled up Goji and Mungo. This time we were going on a two hour walk which would again take us through shaded wooded areas with fabulous vistas and open fields.\u00a0

\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was heaven and we were so delighted that Kiki had two new Llama friends. On our return Kiki had become so confident with the Llamas that she even kissed one of the baby Llamas that approached her. After lunch Kiki was so tired she retired to bed for a little siesta. Later in the afternoon we visited Coal Yard Creatives next door.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s a group of local businesses that offer cookery courses, pottery and jewellery making and there’s even a local gin distillery too. We did a bit of gin sampling at the Village Spirit Collective and returned with some delicious rhubarb gin. At six o clock we regrouped for drinks outside the Shepherds Hut.<\/p>\n

This evening Anita had invited a couple of friends who live in Godalming to join us. We decided to light the fire pit outside the Hut and enjoyed more sparkling wine and snacks before heading back to the Inn for supper with Kiki. Again there were other dogs in the dining room so Kiki felt right at home. After our supper of gourmet fish and chips and baked hake we retired early as it had been a very busy day.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Day Three\u00a0<\/h3>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Today was our last day and after a full English breakfast with Kiki enjoyed another sausage we decided to set off for another lovely walk and coffee at the Hambledon Village Shop at the top of the village green.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Shop is staffed by volunteers and has lovely local produce and is also a post office and a cafe with lots of seating outside. We ordered our coffees and a delightful lady offered Kiki treats as well as a doggie ice cream.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

As we sat down Kiki rubbed noses with a few other dogs and we got chatting with a few of the locals. It really was the perfect village scene. We then returned to the Merry Harriers where we packed up and headed back to the city.<\/p>\n

After just over an hour we were all back in Fulham having enjoyed our country escape and we plan to return to the Inn for Sunday lunch very soon. We really can’t think of a hotel that is so dog welcoming and with such a unique and charming vibe. The perfect doggie destination – waggy tails all round!\u00a0<\/p>\n
