We have compiled a collection of some of the best dog-friendly days out in Yorkshire where your dog can come along too. Your four legged friend will love all the new sights and smells and the chance to explore wonderful gardens, sculpture parks, ruined castles, arboretums as well as amazing stretches of coast and countryside including the North York Moors<\/a> and the Yorkshire Dales<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Yorks Moors Railway<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Catch the North Yorks Moors Railway<\/a> heritage steam train which goes from the dog-friendly town of Pickering to the seaside town of Whitby. Your dog will love peering out of  the window to experience the fabulous scenery in the North York Moors National Park<\/a>. The train chugs through 24 miles of Yorkshire countryside and you can hop off and on at various stations along the way. Stop off at Newtondale Halt in the centre of the moors for a lovely walk in the woods. A small charge is made for furry friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yorkshire Arboretum, Castle Howard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

 Situated in the Howardian Hills, An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Castle Howard Arboretum<\/a> is near Malton in North Yorkshire. It features 120 acres which includes 6,000 trees from around the world, lakes and ponds and stunning landscape of parkland. There are two trails you can follow, one taking an hour and the other two hours – depending on how active you are feeling. Enjoy off lead walks in some designated areas and there’s also a dog-friendly cafe which features delicious home cooked food. A great day out for furry friends. <\/p>\n

Yorkshire Sculpture Park<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

 The Yorkshire Sculpture Park<\/a> is located  just outside Wakefield and is a definite must-see featuring amazing outdoor sculptures dotted around the grounds which include works by Damien Hurst, Barbara Hepworth and Ai WeiWei. Cultured dogs will love walking around the grounds with over 500 acres of gorgeou parkland to explore and lots of cafes along the way. Almost everywhere is dog-friendly except the indoor exhibitions and the area around the Upper Lake or the Menagerie Wood to protect livestock and wildlife. Entry to the Park is free, although you will need to pay for parking.<\/p>\n

Helmsley Walled Gardens<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

 Stroll around the beautiful Helmsley Walled Gardens<\/a> which sits beneath the ruins of Helmsley Castle. Built in 1759, these glorious gardens were restored some 25 years ago and now feature 100 apple trees, themed garden rooms and beautiful borders. There is a lovely cafe, the Vine House cafe, which serves delicious lunches as well as teas and is dog-friendly both in and out. While you are there you can take it in turns to visit the new visitor centre which explores the 900 year old history of the ruined castle which has a 900 year old history and where the Cavaliers endured a three month siege during the Civil War.  <\/p>\n

Yorkshire Air Museum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Located south east of York is the Yorkshire Air Museum<\/a> which makes a fabulous dog-friendly day out for those interested in WW2. It is based on former RAF Elvington, a WW2 bomber command base and there are fascinating displays including the Halifax Bomber, one of only two in the world. There’s the opportunity to explore the Spitfire and WACO glider as well as the Douglas Dakota. There are also planes from other eras, hangers and cockpits to visit as well as the control tower that was also used by the French in WW2. Your dog will enjoy the woodland walk and there is also a memorial garden.<\/p>\n

Himalayan Gardens and Sculpture Park<\/h2>\n

 Set in stunning countryside between Masham and Ripon, the Himalayan Gardens and Sculpture Park<\/a> features over 90 contemporary sculptures plus other larger features and a small play area set within 45 acres of woodland and gardens. The gardens feature the North’s largest collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, and magnolias as well as sculptures including a bronze leopard stalking a roe deer, a giant floating magnolia as well as a Japanese pagoda. There are three lakes as well as a summerhouse, Himalayan shelter, Contemplation hut and a Norse hut plus a cafe with a terrace.<\/p>\n

Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can feed the animals, meet the Meerkats, and talk to the parrots. As well as visiting the new Lemur enclosure. There’s also an assault course, tunnel, slides and swings and a charming cafe serving snacks and drinks.  A great way to get your dog used to other animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located in the Yorkshire Wolds, Burton Agnes Hall<\/a> is an early 17th Century Elizabethan manor house with fabulous grounds for you and your trusty hound to explore and makes a great day out for the whole family. Dogs are allowed to walk through the lovely gardens which feature a hedged maze and giant board games. Perhaps the best walk for dogs is the woodland sculpture walk. There is also an adventure playground including a double zip wire. Four legged friends can join you at the Courtyard cafe for tea and home made cakes.<\/p>\n
