South Wales<\/strong><\/h2>\n

For more breathtaking views from the skies, you\u2019re spoilt for choice in South Wales. Start with Caerphilly Mountain north of Cardiff<\/a> and a 360 degree spectacular view over Caerphilly, Cardiff Bay<\/a> and the Bristol Channel, which is an absolute favourite for dogs. <\/span>The Black Cock Inn<\/span><\/a> is a fabulous watering hole, plus, Cardiff<\/a> is easily accessible – less than 2 hours from London by train!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hike the <\/span>Sugar Loaf <\/span><\/a>– one of the highest peaks in the Black Mountain range with panoramic views across south Wales, Coed y Bwnydd the Iron Age hillfort, and ancient woodlands home to a variety of wildlife.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Offa\u2019s Dyke Path passes through 177 miles of different types of landscape passing through 8 counties, and crossing the Welsh and English border over 20 times with the peak at Hatterrall Ridge. Whilst you\u2019re in the area, a must-stop off is <\/span>Hay-on-Wye<\/span><\/a> to shop at dog-friendly <\/span>The Old Electric Shop<\/span><\/a>, and <\/span>Murder and Mayhem<\/span><\/a> bookshop, before a light bite at the <\/span>Three Tuns<\/span><\/a>, a coffee break at the <\/span>Cosy Cafe<\/span><\/a>, or a cold glass and tapas at <\/span>Tomatitos<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the area, we have some pawfect options for R&R including the stunning <\/span>Coed-y-Mwstwr Hotel, Glamorgan<\/span><\/a> close to Porthcawl, Ogmore by the Sea and Merthyr Mawr where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed. Close to Cardiff, the majestic <\/span>New House Country Hotel Thornhill, Glamorgan<\/span><\/a> towers over the city offering the best of both hustle and bustle, plus the calming effects of the beautiful Welsh countryside. For a more unusual stay, check out the <\/span>Shepherd’s Huts, <\/span><\/a>at the <\/span>Parkway Hotel and Spa<\/span><\/a> in Cwmbran nestled in over seven and a half acres of gorgeous gardens.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mid Wales<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Where do we start with the mountain magic of Mid Wales?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The forever beautiful Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) spans 520 square miles on the borders of mid and south Wales and is famous for its <\/span>Fforest Fawr UNESCO Global Geopark <\/span><\/a>where you can explore the 470 million-year-old layers of rocks recognised for their distinctive geology sculpted from ice.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s also home to the first International Dark Sky reserve in Wales with spectacular views of the Milky Way from the Visitors Centre in <\/span>Libanus<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span>For a walk easier on the knees, start at architectural wonder <\/span>Tretower Court and Castle<\/span><\/a>, and trace the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal to discover the UNESCO World Heritage site at <\/span>Blaenavon<\/span><\/a> the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.<\/span><\/p>\n

Or try a day trip around Brecon, starting at the <\/span>Theatr B! Caf\u00e9 <\/span><\/a>for a homemade scotch egg and Black Mountain Preserves chutney, then visit one of the best book shops in the country at <\/span>The Hours<\/span><\/a>, sample a bowl of delicious Welsh Cawl at <\/span>Caffi Y Fan<\/span><\/a>, before a wander around the dog-friendly <\/span>Brecon Cathedral <\/span><\/a>to catch a concert.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the very heart of Wales, you\u2019ll find the Cambrian Mountains area of Astounding Natural Beauty sprawling across Ceredigion, Powys and Carmarthenshire. And for a dog-friendly day out, head to<\/span> Heatherton World of Activities<\/span><\/a> which is free admission and home to a dedicated agility course, doggy ice cream and treats, plus they can watch you participate in human activities including a hedge maze, tree tops trail, and bowls.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

North Wales\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mountains define the Welsh landscape, and none so much as the infamous <\/span>Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park<\/span><\/a>, steeped in culture, history and towering ranges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dogs are welcome on leads, so to hike this beautiful behemoth with your dog-friend, we\u2019d recommend taking the 13km Llwybr Cwellyn Path (<\/span>Snowdon Ranger Path<\/span><\/a>) as it\u2019s the quietest and easiest route to the top. Take in the beautiful views towards Llyn Cwellyn Lake and across to Mynydd Mawr to spot a crag at the edge of the forest known as Castell Cidwm – where the giant Cidwm lives according to local folklore.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whilst you\u2019re there, watch the sunset at <\/span>Ynys Lawd South Stack<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To keep you and your pup fueled, start the day with locally sourced coffee and bap at <\/span>Jollys<\/span><\/a> in Beaumaris, try the Fish Friday at the <\/span>Pier House Bistro<\/span><\/a>, or enjoy the sandy views of the gorgeous <\/span>Oyster Catcher<\/span><\/a> for Welsh Tapas on Ynys M\u00f4n (Anglesey).<\/span><\/p>\n
