\"Dog1. The Clare and Cavendish Trail<\/h2>\n

We couldn’t talk about the top dog walks in Suffolk without starting with one of the best-known circular walks that’s a hit with dog lovers! The Clare and Cavendish 11km trail takes you through the lovely Stour Valley countryside between the charming towns of Clare and Cavendish. Here, you’ll witness historic buildings and castle grounds on the way. Better yet, you’ll be able to let your dog off the lead in many areas across this picturesque trail. Just remember to put the lead back on when you see livestock nearby!<\/p>\n

During the trail, you’ll have multiple opportunities to take a break for refreshments, such as within the dog-friendly pub, Five Bells in Cavendish or the Cafe Clare. The Castle Country Park in Clare is also recommended for a lovely dog walk in Suffolk with your pooch.<\/p>\n

2. Dunwich Heath and Beach<\/h2>\n

Dunwich Heath combines coastal delight with the natural beauty heathland scenery. You’ll experience scenic views over the Suffolk coast as you take a tranquil walk with your furry friend.<\/p>\n

Dunwich is actually known as “The Lost City of England” as its once thriving port town felt the mercy of the sea in the 13th Century. This was when parts of the villages tumbled into the water off the cliffs. However, since then, Scientists have discovered<\/a> that the city is not exactly ‘lost’, it’s just underwater.<\/p>\n

Now, Dunwich Beach is a rare nature reserve that allows dogs and so is a popular spot for seaside dog walks in Suffolk. You’ll also find a tea room, shop, and visitors centre you can stop by – your pup will be given free treats during your visit!<\/p>\n

Please note that during March – August, dogs will need to stay on the lead at Dunwich Heath. This doesn’t include the ‘Dunwich Heath Woof Walk’<\/a><\/span> though, where your dog can be let off the lead throughout the trail until it reaches its end.<\/p>\n

If you and your four-legged friend love nothing more than lakeside dog walks, then dog-friendly Alton Water<\/a> <\/span>will be ideal for you. Home to a large lake, woodland, ponds, and marshes, the area has a tranquil setting that’s perfect for beautifully quiet dog walks in Suffolk.<\/p>\n

Even though your dog will need to stay on the lead for the entire duration, your pup will still enjoy sniffing around the lakes and woodland as you admire the breath-taking scenery. During your stroll, you’ll observe a variety of different wildlife and you may even spot a barn owl if you’re lucky! Whilst dogs are not allowed within the castle itself, you’ll love exploring the picturesque landscape and strolling around the castle grounds with your pup. This wonderful trail takes you along the historic grounds and down towards the Framlingham Mere. (A nature reserve that is dog-welcoming!) While at the Mere, you can do some wildlife spotting whilst trotting along with your furry friend on their lead.<\/p>\n

8. Hadleigh Railway Walk<\/h2>\n

The Hadleigh Railway Walk<\/a> <\/span>is located where a disused railway line used to be (hence the name!). The track bed of the old railway line has now formed a dog-friendly path through the woodland and meadows around Hadleigh. You’ll be glad to know that your dog is allowed off the lead here. But beware, there are small streams that they may pounce in! It’s also important to note that it’s a popular route with cyclists so keep an eye out and have the lead handy in case it gets busy.<\/p>\n

This trail starts at the old station and can be followed for two miles before turning back towards the town. The path is flat and level so it will be an easy walk for most ages and physical capabilities.<\/p>\n

Stone Curlew birds are particularly rare with only 400 breeding pairs in the UK. You’ll find them nesting on the ground, but they are sensitive to any disturbance. Because of this, it’s best to keep dogs on short leads whilst on the Brecks Trail.
