Puppies are beautiful but they do tend to get overexcited, especially when they first move to a new home. A few little \u2018accidents\u2019 are to be expected when you first get your puppy; but you\u2019ll soon need to start training your pet into a toilet routine, which will mean going outside \u2013 so, when can you take your puppy outside?<\/p>\n

Well, provided you\u00a0have a closed garden, your puppy can venture outside as soon as you get it. However, it\u2019s important to keep a close eye on your pup and ensure that it doesn\u2019t mix with other dogs until it has had its essential\u00a0vaccinations.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019d like to start toilet training your puppy, but haven\u2019t had the chance to visit the vet for injections yet, then\u00a0crate training may be an option for you \u2013 as long as the crate is relatively large, with plenty of room to move around.<\/p>\n

Take your puppy outside to the toilet, and then place it in the\u00a0crate for up to three or four hours.\u00a0Puppies will not want to \u2018go\u2019 in their space and will gradually learn to relieve themselves outdoors.<\/p>\n

Whether you choose crate or traditional potty training methods, you must always praise your pet when it successfully uses the toilet outside. Equally, be sure to tell your pet off for relieving itself on the carpet indoors \u2013 puppies will begin to understand the difference between \u2018good\u2019 and \u2018bad\u2019 behaviour very quickly if you adopt this approach.<\/p>\n

Most dogs will learn the phrase \u2018walkies\u2019 very early on in life, and with\u00a0lots of excess energy to burn, puppies love a good long walk around the park. Whilst they are training, it\u2019s not a good idea to let them off the leash in public spaces, so to give them a bit more freedom to explore, why not try a\u00a0retractable lead<\/a>? Available in a range of fun colours, a retractable lead will give your puppy plenty of scope for fun, but without\u00a0straying too far.<\/p>\n
