Keen walkers are sure to be impressed by St Cuthberts Way, a 100-kilometre long-distance trail between the Scottish Borders town of Melrose and Lindisfarne off the coast of Northumberland, named after a 7th-century saint. The nearby town of Wooler is set along the last leg of the journey, so you needn’t traverse the full length. Wooler itself is just under 4 miles away and features a good range of shops, pubs, restaurants, and facilities. A 20-minute drive brings you to the popular village of Bamburgh a stunningly attractive small village set on the northern stretch of the Northumberland Coast. It is without doubt dominated by its magnificently striking castle that can be seen for miles around. Why not hit the waves yourself with a trip to the Farne Islands? Take a boat trip from Seahouses and see the Medieval Pele Tower and Victorian Lighthouse, as well as the famous seabird colony. Depending on the time of year, you might catch a glimpse of the friendly seals and puffins that visit the islands’ shores. Golfers flock to Bamburgh, where the Bamburgh Castle Golf Club offers a particularly picturesque round. It’s short but tough and boasts some of the best views in the country! Carr House farmhouse is set on a working farm, but only minutes away from the attractions of Scarborough and only 1½ miles from the well known surfing beach at Cayton Bay, which also welcomes dog walkers throughout the year. Wroxham, 12 miles, capital of the famous Norfolk Broads is great for daily boat hire, river trips and waterside cafés. Inverspey is a detached bungalow, set in its own grounds, enjoying uninterrupted views across open farmland to the hills and sea beyond. The interior of the cottage has been completely renovated throughout to an exceptionally high standard. Inverspey lies on the Spey Bay Trail and on the edge of Spey Bay, a beautiful hamlet that leads directly onto the bay and the River Spey. The immediate area is renowned for its wildlife with the National Scottish Dolphin and Whale Centre just a few yards from the cottage, where you can learn about the amazing bottlenose dolphins and other wildlife that are regularly seen close by, including seals, osprey, minke whale and even rare sea eagles. The centre also runs bat watching tours and the opportunity to explore the UK’s largest surviving ice house. Spey Bay is home to the largest shingle beach in Scotland. There are wonderful walks direct from the cottage along River Spey, renowned for its salmon fishing (permits available locally, in season). The Spey Bay golf course is just a few minutes’ walk away; this lovely coastal links course is open to visitors and there are discounts available for guests, who can also visit the club house, which serves meals and also has a bar. The Malt Whisky Trail is situated over nine locations in Speyside and is well worth a visit. There are numerous sporting activities locally, including sailing, kayaking, fishing, golf, cycling and hill-walking, as well as plenty of interesting places to visit within a short drive. For those who wish to explore further afield, the historic city of Canterbury is within a 30-minute drive, whilst the Channel Tunnel is nearby should a trip to the continent sound appealing.

A must is a visit to Wigtown, which is famous for being Scotland’s National Book Town, a book lovers haven. Just 2 miles from South Steading, is the pretty seaside town of West Kilbride with fantastic views across the water to Arran and surrounding islands. Designated Scotland’s first Craft Town, visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll around the village where they will find a range of cafes, mini galleries, a dedicated craft centre, pubs and gift shops. Also offering the more practical elements for your holiday such as a post office, small supermarkets and a railway station.
Ayrshire is famous worldwide for golf and offers world class championship courses at Turnberry, Royal Troon and Prestwick. The West Kilbride Golf Club offers a championship links course located in Seamill, 3 miles from the farm.
Largs and Ardrossan are popular seaside towns, 8 miles and 7 miles away respectively, where there are watersports offered. Sandy beaches in Seamill. The Firth of Clyde has excellent sailing with yachting clubs and marinas at Ardrossan,Largs, Inverkip and Troon. There are also good opportunities for hill walking and mountain biking, field sports including horse riding, shooting and fishing. Visitors will enjoy visiting the historic castles at Portencross, Hunterston and Law Castle and enjoy the views from the local Tarbert Hill and Law Hill.
Ferries from Ardrossan a short distance from the barn take you to isle of Arran and short ferry hop from Largs to the small island of Cumbrae to visit the only town on the island, Millport for an icecream or enjoy a cycle, 11miles around the whole island.

A wonderful lovingly cared for home, rich in character with its own enclosed lawn rear garden, located opposite the River Yare, in a lovely riverside location in the pretty conservation village of Reedham. During the 1900s this period thatch cottage, which is full of character, including exposed beams and a wood burner was the village inn and then became a sweet shop, and is now beautifully transformed into a loving home. The entrance hall opens into the open plan beamed living/dining room with wood burner, the sun room with seating is south facing and overlooks the River Yare. There is a well equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and stable door to the enclosed lawn garden. There is a ground floor twin bedroom and bathroom, while the first floor has two further double bedrooms and a toilet. The rear garden is tiered with steps leading up and onto a private parking area. Immediately outside is a great patio area with garden furniture.
Reedham is a conservation village with two pubs, one of which serves great food and is on the doorstep, there is a shop, café, fish and chip shop, and a railway station. There is good walking, cycling and bird watching available from the doorstep, while fishermen will delighted with the river fishing (in season, licence required), which is available opposite the property and alongside the rivers’ edge. There are many attractions within 30 miles, including the traditional seaside resort of Great Yarmouth with activities for all ages. Within easy reach are Wroxham, known as the capital of the Norfolk Broads, waterside restaurants, shops, daily boat hire and river trips. Petits Animal and Adventure Park is just 1-mile away, with BeWILDerwood tree top adventure park 18 miles and Lenwade Dinosaur Adventure Park 29 miles, popular for families with children. The city of Norwich, 17 miles, has two indoor shopping malls, market square, cinema complexes, theatre, castle museum, cathedral, art galleries and plenty of restaurants and inns. Beach 10 miles.
