The pretty village of Robertsbridge is just a mile away and offers a general store, local pub, and award-winning Indian restaurant. Bewl Water is 7 miles away and offers various water sports and the Bodiam Boating Station is 10 miles away which offers river cruises and boat hire for a more relaxed day out or kayaking for the more adventurous. You can also explore Bodiam Castle 3 miles away and a little further afield are Battle, the Cinque Ports town of Rye and the coastal town of Hastings. The area between Robertsbridge, Rye and Pevensey is called ‘1066 Country’ and boasts a host of tourist and leisure attractions, including Great Dixter, Bodiam Castle and Smallhythe Place. For those wanting to venture back to the time of steam trains, visit the Kent and East Sussex Railway and take a trip from Bodiam to Tenterden in one of the lovely old carriages. Visit the moated castle at Bodiam built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, a former knight of Edward III, only a 10-minute drive.

Follow in the footsteps of Elizabeth I and spend some time exploring the beautiful Cinque port market town of Rye. In 1573 she bestowed the title Rye Royale. A plethora of trails and walks are available, and the area is well known for its prize winning horses and trainers. You can spot the horses in action on the gallops, where you can also see barn owls and kestrels. Findon is home to a traditional Sheep Fair and Village Festival, which is held at Nepcote in September. Walk part of the 100-mile South Downs Way with historic woodlands where you can smell the intoxicating scent of the bluebells in the spring. Look out for roe deer and red kites, and you may even be lucky enough to see hares boxing. Paragliding, hang gliding, golf, zorbing, mountain boarding and water sports are all available nearby. The coastal town of Worthing, where you can stroll along the promenade or the award-winning pier, is 5 miles away. This lovely stretch of Sussex coastline features a long promenade Worthing Pier and WOW (Worthing Observation Wheel) - the new giant big wheel with fantastic long-range views along the Sussex Coast and to the South Downs. At 46 metres high it is the highest observation wheel to be placed in South East England. For other recreation ideas Splashpoint Leisure Centre is a short drive and has fantastic swimming facilities for adults and kids alike. Worthing theatres offer a wide variety of shows at a number of venues including the iconic Pavilion Theatre on the pier. A little further afield there is a huge variety in every direction.

The historic and picturesque town of Arundel is only a few miles to the west and with the quaint streets, Castle Cathedral and Arundel Wildfowl and Wetland Nature Reserve you will never be lost for a great day out. Heading east will bring you to the vibrant city of Brighton where the i360 The Lanes and a cornucopia of colour awaits. Driving north leads you straight into the South Downs - head to Cissbury Ring 15 minutes away for great panoramic views over Sussex.
