    Lying between the Montrose Basin and Brechin, adjoining the River Southesk, Kinnaird Estate has been in the owners’ family since 1400 and covers some 7,000 acres of low lying land. There is a huge variety of wildlife to be seen, including red squirrels, woodpeckers, owls and ospreys, whilst the River Southesk is home to salmon and even freshwater pearls. Within the immediate grounds of the castle there are many paths laid out for guests, leading to follies and fine views on the way to the river and estate lake. Enjoy a barbecue or a game of tennis on the private court, or take a leisurely cycle on one of the many quiet roads which cross through the estate.
    The owner can provide catering packs for the first evening and first morning on request, including a breakfast pack (£10) or a dinner pack (£15). Alternatively, meander up the coast towards Montrose where small fishing communities can be found strung out along the rugged coastline. The historic port of Arbroath is just 5 miles away where you can buy fresh and smoked fish daily. Kirriemuir is just a short drive away and is perhaps most famous for being the birthplace of JM Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan. Kirriemuir is at the foot of the Angus Glens and on the perimeter of the Cairngorm National Park, and there are plenty of interesting shops and eateries in the town.
