Islabank Farmhouse (ref SAAP) is a traditional, characterful, comfortable farmhouse which is ideal for families. Curlew Cottage (ref SYYJ) is a charming, beautifully converted, detached, single-storey property and a haven for wildlife. Still part of the farm but located 4 miles away is Osprey Cottage (ref UZQ), a delightful, light and sunny, single-storey detached cottage.
Set amongst beautiful farmland and fruit-growing country, they make an excellent choice for relaxing breaks in the heart of rural Perthshire. The estate makes an ideal base for exploring central Scotland, Edinburgh, Perth, St Andrews and the Highlands. Glamis Castle is a few miles away. Lying between the Montrose Basin and Brechin, adjoining the River Southesk, Kinnaird Estate has been in the owners’ family since 1400 and covers some 7,000 acres of low lying land. There is a huge variety of wildlife to be seen, including red squirrels, woodpeckers, owls and ospreys, whilst the River Southesk is home to salmon and even freshwater pearls. Within the immediate grounds of the castle there are many paths laid out for guests, leading to follies and fine views on the way to the river and estate lake. Enjoy a barbecue or a game of tennis on the private court, or take a leisurely cycle on one of the many quiet roads which cross through the estate.
The owner can provide catering packs for the first evening and first morning on request, including a breakfast pack (£10) or a dinner pack (£15). The owner will leave coffees, teas, cereals, farmhouse bread, butter, marmalade and jams, together with fruit and yogurt in the kitchen, along with bacon and eggs. They can also leave a homemade supper (main course and pudding) for heating up in the apartment.
The Lauderdale is situated on the first floor and features the main family bedrooms of previous generations – all extremely comfortable and generous in size, with spacious sitting areas where you can relax and soak up the atmosphere. All are en-suite with updated bathrooms and gallons of hot water. There is an open plan living/kitchen with a more modern feel with plenty of space for cooking and dining. This charming semi-detached traditional cottage is set in a quiet street in the lovely village of Edzell. Totally refurbished, it offers relaxing holiday accommodation for families or couples with excellent walking in the Angus Glens almost on the doorstep. Arthur’s Cottage is close to amenities such as shops and eating places, as well as a quality parkland 18-hole golf course, which are all within a short stroll.
The village is part of the Victorian Heritage Trail which passes through Fettercairn with its gothic arch and local distillery (where tours can be taken) up through Cairn o’ Mount and into Royal Deeside, ending at Balmoral Castle. The clean sandy beaches at St Cyrus and Montrose are within easy reach or if you prefer, travel a little further afield to St Andrews, Dundee or Perth for more varied days out. There is ample fishing and golf in the area as well as some good eating places or why not visit some of the stately homes, notably Glamis Castle or Scone Palace near Perth. Beach 12 miles. This delightful bungalow sits in a wonderful sunny position in the village of Panbride on the outskirts of Carnoustie. The cosy interior is comfortable and well furnished, and surrounded by attractive gardens, which ensures a relaxing break at any time. Plenty of cycle paths run along the shore line just a short distance from the property, and there are many walking opportunities along the coastal path or inland in one of the five Angus Glens.
Carnoustie itself has much to offer the visitor aside from golf (the famous course is a short distance away, with another three nearby), with a sandy beach, tennis courts, putting and parks, not to mention shops, eating places and cafés all within easy reach of the house.
An ideal place for touring, the cities of Dundee, Perth and Aberdeen are all within striking distance for enjoyable days out and can all be reached by rail from the town itself. Alternatively, meander up the coast towards Montrose where small fishing communities can be found strung out along the rugged coastline. The historic port of Arbroath is just 5 miles away where you can buy fresh and smoked fish daily. A golfers paradise, as well as the famous championship course there are many other golf courses in the area – St Andrews is within a short drive of the town. The area has much else to offer including excellent beaches and a large selection of castles and country houses, notably Glamis Castle.

This gorgeous archetypal stone cottage is in a blissful rural retreat, set amongst the rolling hills and Glens beyond Kirriemuir. With hens, pet sheep, two horses and calves in the surrounding fields, you will feel a world away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The interior is sumptuous and welcoming with a cosy wood burner in the open plan lounge/kitchen to greet you in after a busy day out, while all interior wood and the kitchen worktops have been custom made using the timber from an oak tree that fell naturally in the grounds of the property. The bedrooms are spacious with zip and link kingsize beds in the downstairs bedroom, and kingsize sleigh bed in the upper room, accessed via a wrought iron spiral staircase with a glass balustrade and gallery overlooking the lounge.
The bathroom has a separate shower with a monsoon shower head and a lovely bath to soak in and soothe aching limbs. Outside, there is an enclosed lawn to the front as well as a raised patio with a fabulous hot tub where you can sit and look up at the stars. The owner thoughtfully provides robes for you. Perfect.

If you can tear yourself away, the area has much to offer the visitor. There are great walks accessible nearby, through Glen Prosen and Clova or magnificent walking, bird-watching, mountain biking, and further afield, downhill skiing at Glen Shee (25 miles). Kirriemuir is just a short drive away and is perhaps most famous for being the birthplace of JM Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan. Kirriemuir is at the foot of the Angus Glens and on the perimeter of the Cairngorm National Park, and there are plenty of interesting shops and eateries in the town.
