An easy walk away is the pretty fishing village of Port Appin, which overlooks Loch Linnhe with its several islands and backdrop of mountains. From here ferries to the Isle of Lismore can be taken, where several places of interest can be visited. Apart from the fortified Tirefour Broch, there are the ruins of the 12th-century Castle Coeffin and the abandoned quarry village of Sailean with its disused kilns, as well as the ruins of Achanduin Castle and the island’s highest point Barr Mor. To the north of Port Appin, the romantic Castle Stalker can be found - much loved by photographers. Appin is a destination for food-lovers with several very highly rated restaurants in the immediate area.
Within easy reach, the Victorian resort of Oban is the second largest town in Argyll. It has the McCaig’s Folly as its landmark, which was built in imitation of Rome’s Colosseum. A tour of the Oban Distillery is a popular experience for whisky lovers whilst boat trips to Mull, Iona, Staffa, Seal Island and the Treshnish Isles can be made from the harbour at Oban. A short ferry ride from Oban takes visitors to the Isle of Kerrera - a small easily explored island from where panoramic views of Mull, the Slate Islands, Lismore and beyond can be admired.
In the opposite direction lies Fort William, with Ben Nevis - Britain’s highest summit - rising up in the background. One of the Highland’s most impressive glens, Glen Nevis, can be found just a further 10-minute drive away and apart from being the starting point for the ascent of Scotland’s highest peak, has been the location for several films, including Rob Roy and Braveheart.

Rothesay is a charming little coastal town on the Isle of Bute and boasts many interesting shops and attractions. Rothesay is Bute’s main town, and there is an excellent tourist office in the Discovery Centre, which also houses an exhibition about the Isle of Bute. Rothesay is the perfect base for exploring the Isle of Bute and it is also the main ferry port and transport hub.
The best way to explore the island at your own pace is by car, however there is a reliable bus service which travels from Kilchattan Bay at the south of the island up to Rhubodach in the north. There are also buses which will take you to Ettrick Bay where you can enjoy lunch or coffee at the café. During the summer season the bus service also runs to Mount Stuart house. The summer season also brings a city sightseeing bus, which is a hop on - hop off service that tours around the island frequently.
Bute is only 33 miles from Glasgow and is one of the most accessible of the westerly islands from the Scottish Central Belt. Fifteen miles long and five miles across at its widest point, the island is home to many historical sites including Rothesay Castle and Mount Stuart House, with beautiful gardens and walks for all abilities. Inveree is a historic villa in a raised position overlooking Oban and its picturesque harbour. Renovated in 2019-20 to a high standard, Inveree is a perfect holiday home for a week or two to explore this magical part of Scotland and the nearby islands. Equally it works well for a shorter stop en-route to or from the Outer Hebrides.
You’re within walking distance of everything in Oban, including many restaurants, cafés, pubs, galleries, viewpoints, shops and of course a distillery. There are lovely walks from the front door, following the bay in one direction towards the Kerrera ferry and in the other through Oban and to Dunollie Castle. A little further afield, you can go north and explore towards Appin and Castle Stalker. Glencoe and Fort William are only an hour’s drive north from Inveree too and to the east is Inveraray complete with the truly magnificent castle. To the south, the coastline is unspoilt with views of the islands almost a constant. Kilmartin Glen is a highlight and beyond is the spectacular Kintyre Peninsula, and more of those famous distilleries waiting to be explored. Ferries sail from Oban and you can easily hop on and off during the summer, visiting nearby islands including Mull and Iona.
The property itself is impressive with many characterful features. Its situation is unrivalled, slightly elevated above the harbour. Entering the property, you have a choice or two reception rooms, both with wonderful views. To the rear of the house there’s an excellently designed and finished kitchen complete with island hob and oven.
