Ideal for walkers, couples, and dog owners, it is within an easy stroll of fields, footpaths and The Limestone Way. Set on top of the highest hill for many miles around, the views are outstanding and the walking and cycling extremely rewarding. There are hundreds of miles of trails which start straight from the barn, it is an ideal opportunity to park-up, put the car keys away and just relax! Bailey’s Barn is a great base from which to explore the beauty and majesty of the region’s peaks, dales and rivers. With its own quirky traditions such as Bonsall Carnival, International Hen Racing Championships, ancient buildings and History Trails, Bonsall itself is a delightful find with two pubs and a lovely tearoom all within half a mile or so. The adorably named Nutmeg Cottage can be found tucked away in the popular Peak District village of Tideswell. A stone-built, traditional cottage with a wood burner, it is warm, cosy and makes a perfect base from which to discover all that the Peak District National Park has to offer. Nestled between the rugged Dark Peaks of the north, and gentle rolling dales of the south, Tideswell itself benefits from plenty of local amenities including shops, food serving pubs, cafés and annual events including a food festival, wakes week, arts festival and even its very own Last Night Of The Proms. Probably best known for the large and impressive St John the Baptist Church, or the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’, Tideswell is surrounded by stunning scenery and glorious countryside and a number of other Peak District towns and villages within easy reach, including Litton (5 minutes’ drive), Eyam (10 minutes’ drive), and Castleton, Bakewell and Buxton (all 20 minutes’ drive). The magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall can also be reached in around 20 minutes; Matlock and Ashbourne in about 40 minutes; and for those thrill seekers, Alton Towers in under an hour. For lovers of the great outdoors, Nield Bank Bungalow, standing detached, offers an idyllic picturesque location, with the final approach to the cottage taking you directly to the centre of the fabulous White Peak countryside. An abundance of walking is available direct from the doorstep, including to the village of Flash (the highest village in England), where you can embark on the Three Shires Heads route, where the counties of Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire meet.

Although a truly rural location and perfect for getting away from it all, the spa town of Buxton, famous for its water and opera house, is just 5 miles away. A friendly local shop and pub serving food is less than a mile away, and a number of other Peak District towns and villages are easily accessible, including Longnor with its quaint cobbled market square which is just a 10-minute drive. The ever popular villages of Hartington, Eyam and Castleton are all easily reachable in around half an hour, as is the busy market town of Bakewell and the Alton Towers theme park. The magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall can be reached in around 40 minutes, as can Matlock with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

Redmonds Retreat is a mid-terraced cottage located within the village of Chinley. The village has two fantastic pubs serving home cooked meals and there are also direct train lines into Sheffield or Manchester. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy an abundance of walking and cycling routes to explore. The cottage itself has beed finished to a very good standard and is the perfect place for a couple or two friends. There is a lovely garden area at the front with table and chairs from where you can see the river. On entering the cottage, you are greeted by the open plan living area, which the owners have cleverly designed to feel spacious. There is a well-equipped kitchen, a great size TV with access to Sky, and comfy seating that can be made into a sofa-bed if required. On the first floor is the kingsize bedroom with its en-suite shower room. Redmonds Retreat is quaint and highly desirable for walkers or people just looking for an easy countryside escape.

Dating back to the mid-1800s, this pretty, terraced, stone-built, former rail workers cottage provides beautifully presented and comfortable holiday accommodation, which is well located for families or couples who want to explore all that Derbyshire’s Peak District has to offer. The village of Rowsley offers a village grocery shop and a post office, and is conveniently situated between two of the Peak District’s most popular market towns, Bakewell, 3 miles, and Matlock, 5 miles, as well as being on the doorstep of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, both 2 miles away. Rowsley provides an excellent base for walking, with paths leading to Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and up the hillside towards the moors of Stanton and Fallinge. The Derwent Valley Heritage Trail runs through the village, which has two small art galleries and a couple of good pubs. The Peak Village factory outlet and Caudwell’s Mill, with cafe and craft centre, are both within easy reach of the cottage. Places of interest further afield include Crich Tramway Village, Manifold Valley, Castleton, Dovedale and Buxton. Activities available locally include cycling and fishing. This pleasant bungalow stands in lovely lawned and flowered gardens, just above the former village school where the 1817 ‘Pentrich Revolution’ began. With super views across Amber Valley to Crich Stand and the wooded hills above Matlock, it offers very comfortable, well-equipped holiday accommodation. An attraction-filled area, the Crich Tram Museum, Midland Railway Centre, Gulliver’s Kingdom are close by. Ruby Cottage is a renovated one bedroom cottage, located in an elevated position in the quaint village of Longnor close to the popular spa town of Buxton. This ancient village is set in lovely moorland countryside, six miles to the southeast of Buxton. The River Dove flows to the north, the River Manfold to the south and large numbers of visitors came here to explore the upper reaches of these two famous valleys and the rugged scenery that surrounds them. The village is well equipped with a local store, a fish and chip shop, a newly refurbished pub, post office and Sweetilicious sweetie shop. The Packhorse at Crowdecote is less than a mile away and there are many other good pubs within a few mile radius. Information on these can be found in the cottage.

There are many stunning walks right from the doorstep and the property has the benefit of being close to many interesting Derbyshire towns and villages including Matlock, Matlock Bath, Bakewell, famous for its puddings, and Castleton with its amazing show caves and cliff top Peveril Castle. Attractions include stately homes such as Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, the Heights of Abraham, a cable car ride high above the gorge and Blue John Caves known for its semi-precious Blue John Stone. Buxton Opera House is also worth checking out to see what’s on.

Outside is a delightful private garden, where you can enjoy the sunny seating area, which makes for a peaceful retreat after a long day exploring all that the wonderful Peak District has to offer.
The area around Pear Tree Cottage is called ‘The Puzzle Gardens’ and has the feel of a Cornish fishing village - a random patchwork of houses and gardens removed from traffic and noise. Visitors will enjoy exploring the ancient ‘jitties’ and courtyards of the Puzzle Gardens, or sitting on the bench in front of the cottage, with a drink, to take in its character.
Wirksworth is a small, charming market town situated just a few miles from Matlock, on the edge of the White Peak. It is full of character with many buildings of architectural interest, including its magnificent parish church. Independent shops sit alongside the deli, butchers, and bakers, with a strong local food ethic. Visitors will enjoy the Heritage Centre and the delightful surrounding countryside including nearby Carsington Water, Black Rocks, and the High Peak Trail. Rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed here at every level, and there are good walking routes all around. Well dressing is unique to Derbyshire, and Wirksworth combines this tradition with a lively carnival in May, and a leading rural annual arts festival in September, showcasing contemporary art and international performers of every kind. With an art deco independent cinema and a range of places to eat there is plenty to keep you entertained. The town offers a leisure centre with a climbing wall and a small trainer swimming pool, an Eco Centre, and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre. The weekly market and monthly farmers’ market provide local produce and crafts. Beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath, with its spectacular cable car, the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliver’s Kingdom. Only 2 miles away, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford is not to be missed. In all, Wirksworth is a great location for a varied holiday, with shops, pubs, and restaurants 500 yards away.
There is on road parking available nearby close to a short steep path leading up to the cottage providing a peaceful oasis with beautiful views over the town and surrounding area.

This cosy renovated barn has been furnished to a good standard and offers a great base to explore the Goyt Valley and Buxton on foot, cycle or by car. It has a galleried landing over the lounge leading to a good sized bedroom and bathroom. The cottage is only a short drive from the small town of Whaley Bridge and a stone’s throw away from many walks within the Peak District National Park. Fernilee is within walking distance of both Fernilee and Erwood reservoirs and the walks start from the front door.
