Visit Church Stretton, known as Little Switzerland, Ironbridge and Shrewsbury, with its wonderful buildings, shops and riverside walks. Fishing and golf can be found within 5 miles. Nestled in the pretty town of Ellesmere, Philoxenia Mews offers delightful accommodation with loads of character. Located along a private pathway just behind the restaurant’s pretty garden, are four brand new converted in 2023 apartments. With two sleeping up to four guests and two sleeping up to two guests, they were stables once upon a time. The owner has done an exceptional job of restoring some of the original features. Why not take a day trip into Snowdonia or visit Shrewsbury, where there’s a variety of things to do making it a great day out. Walking, fishing, horse riding and a number of NT properties are all available locally, and a short drive will take you into local towns such as Shrewsbury, Church Stretton, Ludlow, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth, and in less than 15 miles you can cross over the border into mid Wales. The Old Barn is a charming cottage located close to a peaceful village just outside of Church Stretton and is the perfect getaway for those who love walking, tranquillity, and nature. The owners welcome dogs and provide an outdoor heated showering area ready for washing down your mucky pup after accompanying them on one of the many walking routes close by. For those who enjoy fishing, there are two fishing pools with carp and tench. Please note that there’s an additional cost for fishing, payable to the owners during your stay, but you are welcome to walk round and even picnic beside the pools. Please be aware the pools are deep and unfenced. There are excellent bird watching opportunities in the garden, the surrounding woodland area or when walking in the Shropshire hills with footpaths from the property. The local area is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, with mountain biking and an abundance of hiking trails waiting to be explored. Carding Mill Valley and the Longmynd is a must-see. Discover South Shropshire and all the surrounding attractive market towns, along with the National Trust properties and attractions such as the Ironbridge Gorge Museums, Ludlow Castle, Much Wenlock Priory, Shrewsbury town, Cosford Air Museum, Acton Scott Working Farm Museum (re-opening 2024) and there are plenty of country pubs that serve great food. Accessed over the Clee Hills, the highest peaks in Shropshire, the journey to Fourwinds has some of the most amazing views in the county. Once at the property, which is attached to the owner’s home, you will be welcomed by a cosy wood burner. Recently renovated in 2018 while keeping its rustic charm with wooden beams, it provides comfortable furnishing throughout and is ideal for couples or small families. Outside, the private sitting-out area is enclosed and beyond there are 5 acres of woodland that guests are free to explore.
Guests here have the advantage of not only being able to access all areas of Shropshire, but also Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Kidderminster. The nearest town is Ludlow, a medieval town with a castle, racecourse and festivals throughout the year. Attractions nearby include West Midland Safari Park, Wyre Forest, Severn Valley railway and the Bridgnorth funicular railway, Ironbridge Gorge and museums. High rope courses, clay shooting, mountain boarding, canoeing and fishing are all available in Shropshire. Shop and restaurant 3 miles, pub 1 mile.

These two properties are in the pretty village of Burwarton, at the foot of The Brown Clee Hill, and located just a minutes walk from a country pub ’The Boyne Arms’, which has been renovated and is run by the owners’ of these properties. The Boyne Arms offers fantastic meals in a most comfortable and cosy setting, the beer garden outside now includes private pods which guests can use to enjoy their drinks and food outside (see their website for opening and serving times). Included in your short break will be a return journey to either Ludlow or Bridgnorth, to enhance your stay without the need to worry about transport.
The Old School House 1 (UK32061) is a three bedroomed property of which one is en-suite and has a mezzanine balcony overlooking the open plan living space. The Old Kitchen (UK32062) is a studio apartment with the bedroom area in with the living area.
Burwarton is close to Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Ludlow and Bridgnorth which all offer an array of attractions as well as a large range of shops and bars. For the more active guests there are many walks to enjoy such as Clee Burf and Brown Clee Hill which is the highest point in Shropshire. The town of Ludlow is also just a short drive away and highlights for the day include Mortimer Forest and Ludlow Castle. After a long day walking and exploring all that Shropshire has to offer.
