Wilby Halt (ref UKC712) is a quirky and unusual property is split over two restored railway carriages. Linked by a railway platform, the first carriage houses the living space including kitchen and comfortable living room. The second carriage is the sleeping carriage where you will find the double bedroom and further room with bunk bed and single bed. This really is a unique experience and perfect for families.
It is surrounded by country lanes and farmland, making it an ideal location for those who enjoy cycling, walking and just relaxing and getting away from it all. It is centrally located, so it is also a great destination for those who want to sample what Suffolk has to offer. The owner’s own swimming pool, ¾ mile away, is available and is heated all year. There is also a hot tub and sauna.
Local amenities can be found in the pretty village of Debenham only 4 miles away, which has some lovely shops, pubs and cafés, as well as a local supermarket and leisure centre. The beautiful village of Mendlesham, 1½ miles, has a pub, post office, local store and bakery. It is within a short walk of the Mid-Suffolk Railway Museum, with steam trains at weekends in summer. Why not hire a bike and enjoy long relaxing ride along the many cycling trails that also weave through the forest? Many seasonal concerts and events also take place in and around the woodlands and make for a great evening out. Thetford, 6 miles, was also the location for the filming of ’Dads Army’, and the museum for the show is a must see for any fan.
To the north you find the Norfolk coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, that enjoys long stretches of sandy beaches and only a 55-minute drive away.
