The Gower has lots to offer and many tourist attractions are only a short drive away. Locally the towns of Carmarthen and St Clears are only a 6 minute drive. The village shop, pub and restaurant are only 1½ miles….no hustle and bustle of busy tourist towns here!
Take a trip to Llanstephan and enjoy afternoon tea in the mansion house or walk on the sandy beach and then visit the castle. Only 15 minutes away is Laugharne, home of Dylan Thomas, again with a beautiful sandy beach and castle with a tearoom. There is also Pembrey Country Park or Heatherton and Oakwood theme parks to visit or for younger guests (and parents!) visit Folly Farm with lambs, all things fluffy and even tigers and giraffes. A short drive away is Skanda Vale a multi faith ashram which welcomes 90,000 pilgrims a year for those who need a peaceful retreat to stay whilst visiting the temples. Come and enjoy the delights of Tynval, nestled on the edge of the rural hamlet of Bronwydd Arms near the market town of Carmarthen. This beautiful, single-storey barn conversion was once the milking parlour and part of the once busy Cwmgwili Mill Farm, which is steeped in history and dates back to the 1600’s. The mill, which is on the side of the farmhouse, stopped working in the 1950’s. The mill first produced flour and then was converted into a woollen mill which produced blankets for the war. The farm was built by the owners of Cwmgwili mansion, which is a short walk up the hill, and served as the source of food for the estate owners many years ago. The owners have meticulously restored Tynval and retained all the quirks and charm throughout, with vaulted ceilings, beams, exposed stone walls and solid teak flooring offering a superb barn for your family to enjoy.
Here at TynVal we are trying to be energy self-sufficient to reduce our carbon foot-print, you will notice we have solar panels on the roof which we can produce up to 7kwh and we can store 10kwh with our battery storage,every thing within the cottage is powered by electric so during the summer months we don’t need to take any energy from the grid, so we would ask guests kindly if they would use the energy we produce wisely.
It is just a 5-minute drive from the market town of Carmarthen and 15 minutes from the beautiful seaside village of Llansteffan, where the famous salmon river, the Towy, joins Carmarthen Bay. Here you can also visit the ruined castle, dating back to the early 12th-century, along with the Iron Age earthworks still visible to this day and which once controlled an important river crossing of the Towy. Enjoy a walk to discover this castle and its epic views overlooking the sand flats and the Towy river mouth.

Carmarthen has everything on offer with many restaurants specializing in home cooked organic produce, craft shops, galleries, a cinema and traditional markets. Nearby is the Gwili Steam railway and the National Botanical Gardens of Wales, which is home to the largest span glass house in Europe. Aberglasney, a few minutes away, is is said to be one of the finest gardens in Wales and surrounds a restored Grade II listed mansion which is perfect for cream teas whilst enjoying the scenery.
Travelling west is the historic township of Laugharne, the hometown of the famous poet Dylan Thomas, here you can view his writing shed, his former home and enjoy some fine locally brewed ales in his favourite pub.

Starlight is situated on 15 acres of the owner’s land with unspoilt countryside views, there are woodlands to enjoy and a stream running through the site. Starlight has been renovated to a high standard in 2021 and has wheelchair access paths around the site. The property consists of a large open plan space with smart TV, the kitchen area is well-equipped including a slide and hide electric oven. There is a spacious king size bedroom on the ground floor and a separate wet room. The first floor has two spacious bedrooms with super king size beds, one of which has a Smart TV and floor to ceiling windows with great views to the valley. Pwll Farmhouse is surrounded by rolling hills, meadow land, forestry and the meandering Afon Gwili running through this spectacular valley. It is situated off a quiet country lane and is around 3 miles from the activity village of Brechfa, made famous for its outdoor activities, with mountain biking, pony trekking, bird watching and miles of walking trails available for all abilities. With so much on your doorstep, there’s plenty to choose from and you can also enjoy some home cooked produce from the village pub and try some locally brewed ales.
The market town of Llandeilo, a 20-minute drive away, is well worth a visit, where you can stroll around this historic town. Enjoy meandering around antique and gift shops and enjoy a treat or two in one of the local coffee shops. Middleton Cottage has been lovingly furnished throughout with a spacious open plan kitchen diner with views over the rear enclosed garden, the cosy living room boasts a log burner and is ideal to relax in front of with a good film after a busy day sightseeing. Enjoy a read of some good books or some board games in the snug which acts as a second living space which is ideal to keep children entertained. The ancient town of Kidwelly is a 15-minute drive away and is home to one of the finest preserved Norman castles in Wales, along this wonderful coast is Pembrey Country Park, set in 500 acres of woodland where you can learn to dry ski and toboggan, there’s a children’s play area and 8 miles of golden sands at Cefn Sidan beach. Dylan Thomas’ stomping ground and the township of Laugharne are well worth a trip. Here you can visit his writing shed and see his local pub. The famous seaside walled town of Tenby and the Gower Peninsula are a great day out and within an hour’s drive.
