Maesydderwen, meaning oak field, started life as a working farm and later became a country inn, but is now a collection of delightful holiday cottages, beautifully situated within the living landscape of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The charming market town of Llandeilo, with chic shops and an array of good restaurants, cafes and pubs, is just over three miles away. This holiday property has CCTV and has been renovated by the owners who live on-site, and boasts a fantastic hot tub and comfortable accommodation ideal for families, friends or couples. The property has been awarded Bronze in the Carmarthenshire Tourism Awards for self catering accommodation of the year 2018/2019 (3 units or more). There is an abundance of wildlife to see and enjoy from the grounds including woodpecker, siskin, marsh tit, goldfinch, nuthatch and wild roe deer. Red kites can also often be seen soaring overhead and there is a feeding station a 20-minute drive away. You can leave the car behind and enjoy wonderful walks directly from the cottage. If you can drag yourself away from Maesydderwen, there are the beautiful castles of Carreg Cennen and Dinefwr nearby, and the dammed lake of Llyn Y Fan Fach at the western border of the Black Mountains. The National Botanic Garden of Wales, 11 miles, with its great glasshouse dome at its centre, is a year round attraction, and within the Brecon Beacons National Park there are masses of paths and trails for walkers, runners, cyclists, mountain bikers, golfers, horse riders and wildlife watchers. Adrenaline sports such as paragliding, canoeing, rafting and abseiling can also be organised within the national park. Fishing is available in the nearby Towy Valley. Beach 30 miles. These purpose-built holiday cottages (refs 24574, 27255 and 27257) have been constructed or converted from the original farmhouse buildings and an old Welsh longhouse. Welsh craftsmanship at its best - only the finest local tradesmen and materials have been used for the conversion of these buildings. They are situated in an elevated position on the edge of Broadlay near Ferryside on the old pilgrim road to St David’s Cathedral.

There is generous amenity space, dog walking paths and a country adventure play area for small, accompanied children. The complex is on the local bus route which connects to Carmarthen via the hotel and Ferryside railway station. In the opposite direction, Kidwelly and Swansea are en route. Ferryside is uncommercialised, peaceful and quiet; the ideal getaway for a perfect weekend (or longer) break. It is also, due to its proximity to Carmarthen, Llanelli and other centres, an ideal corporate meeting place. Kidwelly, with its Norman castle, industrial heritage museum, Pembrey Country Park and Motorsport Centre, within approximately 10 minutes’ travelling time.

The National Botanical Gardens, Laugharne (famous for Dylan Thomas’ Boathouse) and many Pembrokeshire attractions are about half an hour’s drive. There are many places to visit including Dylan Thomas’ cottage, where he spent the last years of his life. The Millennium Coastal Cycle Path, part of the national cycle path network, meanders through approximately 20 miles of local coastline, passing through local areas of interest. Places to visit include Kidwelly Castle, the Penclawydd Wildfowl Centre, and the Loughor Estuary with views of the Mumbles Peninsula south of Swansea. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Starlight is situated on 15 acres of the owner’s land with unspoilt countryside views, there are woodlands to enjoy and a stream running through the site. Starlight has been renovated to a high standard in 2021 and has wheelchair access paths around the site. The property consists of a large open plan space with smart TV, the kitchen area is well-equipped including a slide and hide electric oven. There is a spacious king size bedroom on the ground floor and a separate wet room. Less than a 30-minute drive away are the coastal resorts of Tenby and Saundersfoot, offering sandy beaches, boutique-style shops, and thrilling leisure parks, including Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm. Pendegy Mill lies within a wooded valley on the edge of the rural village of Llanybri, nestled in the Carmarthenshire countryside. Sited a convenient distance from the historic coastal village of Llansteffan, it is just half a mile from the West Wales Coastal Path. These two beautiful cottages, situated next to the owners’ home, are the perfect base to explore all that Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire have to offer. Mill Cottage was a working water mill; the mill race running into the babbling stream flowing through the beautiful grounds out to the River Taff and into the Carmarthen Bay. These two Welsh stone barns, The Granary and Mill Cottage, have been lovingly restored and offer an idyllic holiday location. They have been finished to a very good standard throughout and have been thoughtfully furnished. On the ground floor is an open plan living space which is superb for social and family gatherings. Take in the coastal air outside in the shared lawns and garden - the perfect spot to dine al fresco and enjoy a delicious meal cooked on the BBQ.
Take a trip into nearby Llansteffan for freshly brewed coffee or travel back in time with a visit to Llansteffan Castle which is steeped in history, and boasts commanding views across the estuary of the River Towy and out towards the Gower Peninsula. Travelling west, a trip to Laugharne is a must. Here you can visit the house and writing shed of famous poet Dylan Thomas, or stop for a refreshing drink and meal at one of the local pubs he would often frequent. Further along this unique coastline is the village of Pendine, which boasts 7 miles of beautiful sandy beach where the land speed record was set in the famous car, Babs. The car was excavated from the Pendine Sands and can be seen today at the Museum of Speed in the town. Violet Cottage (ref 30675) and The Stables (ref 30674) are semi-detached and they both date back to the 18th century and are positioned on the edge of an 8-acre small holding on the outskirts of the quaint village of Llannon. Each cottage has been finished to a good standard with comfortable furnishings and spacious living areas, with Violet Cottage (ref 30675) boasting a cosy woodburner, perfect for unwinding after a busy day’s exploration. Further along the coast, is the WWT Llanelli Wetlands Centre. This 450-acre wildlife haven is home to more than 600 bird species that fly in from all over the globe. Explore the nearby attractions of National Botanical Gardens of Wales and Aberglasney, or take a step back in time and learn the rich history behind the medieval times and visit the majestic castles of Kidwelly, Carreg Cennen and Dinefwr, which are nestled amongst a tranquil 800-acre park with wild fellow deer running free.
