Situated just 5 minutes from Cardigan Bay and within easy reach to the whole of the beautiful Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire coastline and coastal walks, The Stables is a detached, converted stone holiday cottage peacefully set on a farm with a selection of alpacas, donkeys, goats, ducks and chickens. The owners who live on the farm, which is set in 48 acres of rolling countryside, encourage the children to interact with the animals, and are also pleased to offer the use of a barbecue hut nicknamed the ‘Hobbit House’ by the family. Guests can hire it during their stay directly with the owners, subject to availability and for a small charge. There is bike storage in the barn if you would like to bring your own bikes.
Within a 15-minute drive visitors can discover quaint New Quay, famous for the bottlenose dolphins that can often be seen from the harbour (boat trips available in season). The colourful, Georgian, harbour town of Aberaeron is just a bit further up the coast road, with its chic shops and plenty of restaurants. Antique shoppers and browsers will enjoy the nearby market town of Newcastle Emlyn, and Cenarth with its waterfalls is also close by and offers indoor swimming, coracle rides, fishing and paintballing. There are numerous attractions in the area, particularly suitable for children.
Nearby is the Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park, which is set on a headland overlooking the nature reserve of Cardigan Island, home to thousands of sea birds. At the foot of the cliffs, a colony of Atlantic grey seals can be observed in their natural habitat. Spectacular coastline and wonderful views can be savoured from the National Trust managed Penbryn Bay and a visit to National Trust Cilgerran Castle can also be enjoyed. Only the ruins remain of this striking 13th-century castle, whose vantage point overlooks the wonderful Teifi Gorge. Also nearby is the town of Cardigan with its restored medieval castle. The Teifi Valley Railway is another experience for the visitor, a 2-mile journey offers wonderful views of the valley and countryside. Golf and horse riding can also be found locally. Beach 3½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Fabulous dog friendly cottage with its own doggy paddock, set in the beautiful Welsh countryside, Shire is located amongst 6 acres of shared grounds in a small privately owned hamlet of cottages. This once belonged to a bigger estate of grounds which, many years ago, was farmed by monks. A perfect tranquil location in which to explore some of the Welsh countryside and coastlines. Aberaeron, with its beach, pretty harbour and lots of good eateries, is about 20 minutes’ away, by car.
Shire is at the end of a traditional range of farm buildings which used to house the horses. Stepping through the front door of this traditional Welsh slate and stone cottage, you will be greeted by a stylish open plan lounge diner with leather Chesterfields and a wood burner. This leads onto the dining area with handmade rustic table and benches with a beautiful Welsh dresser. Next to this, handmade freestanding units set the tone for a vintage look, with a well equipped kitchen with electric range. Off the kitchen is a small utility area, perfect for hanging coats and washing dog bowls, there is also a large fridge/freezer and dishwasher in this area. The cottage offers a variety of sleeping arrangements with a super kingsize, a kingsize and a compact twin bedroom, all with handmade wooden beds and good quality mattresses for a restful night’s sleep. Across the hall is the shower room with walk-in shower, toilet, sink, and heated towel rail, and there is also a separate bathroom with freestanding bath, overhead shower, sink and toilet.
Outside, off the dining area, French doors lead to the enclosed private patio. This has a large barbecue (gas and coal), and a wood burning hot tub with bubbles and lights, perfect for relaxing after exploring the nearby beaches and countryside. There is a gate to your own small paddock area (slightly sloping), which is great for dogs, and beyond the cottage there are 6 acres of grounds shared with the other guests. A bridge takes you over the river to a picnic area, the perfect place to relax with a drink to the sounds of the water flowing. There are plenty of rural walks and dog friendly places nearby, a list of which you will find in your cottage. The owner provides dog bowls, blankets and towels. The owner loves dogs, so your four-legged family companion is ensured a warm welcome with them.

With breathtaking views over Cardigan Bay, the properties are located just 100 yards from the cliff top. Gwbert-on-Sea is a small, quiet hamlet on the shore of the mouth of the Teifi Estuary, just a couple of miles outside Cardigan. The settlement takes its name from the wandering St Gwbert, said to have landed here and taken shelter in a cave. The shoreline is marked by rugged cliffs and small shingle bays, with large stretches of sandbank exposed at low tide, and the area gives superb views over a diverse and scenic landscape. The ancient oak woodland of the Teifi Valley, the tidal marshes of the estuary, and the boundary of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park can all be appreciated from here.

The 18-hole golf course at Cardigan Golf Club also offers fine views of the estuary and sea, and from the headland you can look across to Cardigan Island. The mud and sand flats of the estuary attract a great variety of birds, and in the autumn waders such as the redshank, oystercatcher and curlew can be seen feeding here, along with several species of migrating duck. The headland of Craig y Gwbert is the site of an Iron Age Fort, with pieces of pottery found near Gwbert, now on display in Cardigan museum. All the outside areas are covered by CCTV. Beach 7 miles. Travel south to the traditional market town of Cardigan, here the beautifully restored castle is not to be missed with 900 years of history to uncover. Enjoy a short walk into the village to discover the traditional Welsh pub or a freshly brewed coffee in the village café. There’s so much to explore in Cardigan Bay but if you want a day out to Pembrokeshire you can reach the well-known family attractions of Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo within an hour’s drive. Why not take a stroll along Lover’s Walk’ past four weirs and along the river valley to Llanachaeron? Or try a coastal clifftop walk with stunning sea views and spectacular wildlife.
