Once inside, you are greeted by a charming entrance hall, comprising a useful utility space, complete with butler-style sink downstairs cloakroom, and set slightly aside, a wonderful bedroom with double bed with original features such as original ceiling hooks dating back to another time. Move into the kitchen and a beautiful room complete with window seat greets you. With an excellent blend of rustic charm and style, this room will be a popular hub during your stay. The separate dining room has a welcoming and warming feel, with an impressive dining table, electric wood burner and wall-mounted TV. There are quaint windows, with tie-back curtains making this room a real delight. The living room has super-comfy sofas to sink into, a chair and further electric wood burner. A great room to immerse yourself in a favourite novel, curled up in comfort. Stairs lead you up to the first floor, where there are three double bedrooms, all with country-cottage styling in keeping with the traditional feel throughout and all designed to encourage a peaceful night’s rest after a day of adventures. If you can tear yourself away from this exquisite setting, you are just a few minute’s walk from the village itself, with a superb pub serving a range of wonderful meals. Wadebridge, a historic market town, lies just 3 miles away, with many shops, restaurants and the renowned Camel Trail. Here you can hire a bicycle and take the often breathtaking route through coast and country towards the buzzing and popular town of Padstow or inland to Bodmin, with its heritage steam railway and chilling jail experience! The beaches on the North Coast are some of the finest in the county, from magnificent swathes of golden sand to high rolling waves rolling in off the vast Atlantic Ocean, ideal for surfing and all things watersport. Cliff top vistas and far reaching views are yours to behold, with visits such as as Port Isaac if Doc Martin fame, picture-postcard Boscastle and mystical Tintagel, the legendary home of King Arthur. Less than 2 miles from Bodmin. This area is a great place to explore by bicycle and you can either bring your own or hire them locally and roam along the nearby Camel Trail. Barn Cottage is an ideal base for touring the whole of Cornwall with a host of nearby sandy beaches such as Polzeath, Harlyn and Trevone. Classic Cornish villages such as Fowey, Mevagissey, Port Isaac and Boscastle are all within easy reach, as is the bustling fishing town of Looe. The famous Eden Project is well worth a visit as is the stately home at Lanhydrock, both just a few minutes away. The beautiful River Fowey is accessible for walks at various points nearby including Golitha Falls and Respryn, with their ancient beech woodlands, and in the former Cornish capital of Lostwithiel. Lanhydrock golf course is approximately one mile away for those desiring a leisurely round or two!
The oldest part of Bodmin is made up of mainly granite buildings clustered around the Bodmin Beacon. The Beacon is a 144 feet tall obelisk in memory of Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert. The area around the Beacon which has woodland and traditional hay meadow was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1994. The 18-mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families.
