This area of Cornwall is inundated with many tourist attractions, pretty coastal villages and resorts; from Fowey to Mevagissey the whole of St Austell Bay is dotted with secret coves and secluded beaches, such as Menabilly made famous by Daphne du Maurier. The village of Charlestown, frequently used as a film and TV set, is just a stroll away from the holiday property, and has several good places to eat right on the ancient quayside which is the home to the Tall Ships used on many films. The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan, both a must for all visitors to Cornwall, are close by and can even be visited by bike - a cycle hire centre can be found in the village of Pentewan across the bay. - Falmouth, EnglandGribbas Cottage is a delightful cottage, full of character and a lovely place for a couple to stay in South West Cornwall. The living room centres around a large fireplace with a big granite lintel, the ceiling is beamed, and the room is full of character making this a lovely comfortable room to relax in after a busy day. The kitchen is perfect for cooking up a holiday feast, why not enjoy dinner al fresco in the sunny, south facing garden. Upstairs is a very sizeable bathroom and a double bedroom with an iron frame bed. The cottage is a great escape for couples looking for a reasonably central location in this part of Cornwall. Dog friendly with an enclosed garden, and lovely local walks.
Ideally placed for exploring the Lizard, yet close to Falmouth and the north Helford area and within easy reach of the north coast. Great cycling can be had on the superb Bissoe Trail, the old mining tramway and runs from the south to north coast. It is a great way to see this fascinating landscape, steeped in industrial heritage.
A short distance inland from Perranporth, St. Agnes and Chapel Porth are the Victorian towns of Camborne and Redruth - both produced world-class inventors and engineers. The harbour town of Falmouth is within a short drive with several attractions for the visitor. There is the fascinating National Maritime Museum, or you can take a boat trip around the spectacular Carrick Roads. Falmouth is a short drive away, and here you can enjoy the wealth of fine restaurants and thriving pubs that this vibrant town has to offer. Explore from the Prince of Wales Pier to Custom House Quay, Events Square, where the Falmouth Oyster Festival and the shore-side activities for Falmouth Week are based, and the National Maritime Museum. There are also regular ferries from the Prince of Wales Pier and Custom House Quay that are well worth a day trip with destinations such as the beautiful St Mawes and the Roseland Peninsula or further up the River Fal to Trelissick Gardens, Malpas or Truro. Alternatively, you can explore down the Lizard, England’s most southerly headland and lighthouse, the stunning Kynance Cove or the quiet ambience of the Helford River, the inspiration for Daphne Du Maurier’s Frenchmans Creek. A short drive away is the Helford River. This delightful part of Cornwall includes places such as Mawnan Smith, Helford Passage, Constantine & Gweek. The area has many delights such as Trebah and Glendurgan Gardens, The Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, Goonhilly Earth and Satellite Station. Glendurgan Gardens, run by the National Trust, hold a 176-year-old laurel maze and the ’Giants Stride’ swing is very popular with children. The side shallow ramp leads to the main entrance and hallway, whilst the living/dining room is bright and welcoming with comfy sofas, gas fire, Smart TV and the all-important Wi-Fi. Adjacent to this room is the kitchen, well equipped with appliances, including an electric oven and induction hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, a Quooker tap and Tassimo coffee machine.
Set to the rear of the property looking over the garden, is a large bedroom with an electric split rising king-size bed and there is also a wall mounted Smart TV. Next to the bedroom is a further room which has a sofa bed, perhaps for an extra guest to use if required. This room can be used as a study and provides access to the conservatory, which has some seating. There is a wide doorway out to the decking and garden. Across the hall is a spacious walk-in wet room with rain shower, ideal wheelchair access or for guests with restricted mobility.
The enclosed rear garden is a particular feature to the property, with a large sunny decking area, level to the lawn, great to enjoy breakfast, a barbeque or an evening glass of wine. There is also plenty of room on the lawn to spread out, or for the dog to enjoy. The property has wide doorways, ideal for a wheelchair set over a level surface.
The rural village of Probus nestles between the city of Truro and town of St Austell making it a great location to visit the many beaches, fishing villages and the popular Roseland across the east & south coasts. A short drive will also take you across to the north coast toward Newquay. The village has a 16th century church and wide main street lined with elegant Georgian houses. The church tower is over 120’ high. Keen gardeners would appreciate the Probus Gardens, designed in the 1970’s to inspire people to make the most of Cornwall’s clement climate.
