    The holiday cottages are tucked away within the extensive grounds of the impressive Georgian manor house dating back to the early 19th century. Mature oak, beech and chestnut shelter the magnificent Magnolia and Rhododendron trees, luscious camellia and dazzling azalea along the shaded crisscross woodland paths. The well-established gardens and borders are full of seasonal colour to feast the eye, while the open grass areas invite to a picnic or a ball game. Take the short walk to picturesque Lostwithiel, an ancient stannary town on the meandering Fowey River. It is the popular Antiques Capital of Cornwall with many quirky gift and craft shops as well as a regular farmers’ market. Refreshments are readily available from several excellent local restaurants, pubs, cafes and take aways.
    The riverside park is perfect for a summer stroll, with the river the home of trout, salmon and sea bass. The breath-taking Luxulyan Valley, with visual reminders of mining long gone and the world famous Eden Project are must visits, the latter protecting under its huge biomes, the world’s largest indoor rainforest. The nearest beach is at Par, with a long stretch of golden sand backed by dunes and rugged inlets and caves to explore. Fowey, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has narrow streets, with boutique shops and fantastic restaurants, whilst St Austell, with historic Charlestown and Carlyon Bay with its far-reaching vistas is a joy to behold.

    The seafaring town of Fowey with its literary heritage is approximately 8 miles by road but less by river. The small pretty village of Lerryn nearby, also perched on the river, was the inspiration for ‘The Wind in The Willows’ and a walk along the riverbank is a must. The Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and numerous National Trust properties and gardens are also close by and provide lovely days out in this special area of Cornwall. Lanhydrock House, a National Trust stately home and estate is nearby and boasts off road walking and cycle trail through lush woodland, bike hire and a café are available. Horse riding, kayaking, sailing, fishing and boat trips are all available close by. Truro, St Austell and the north coast towns of Padstow, Port Isaac and Newquay are all easily reached from this perfectly situated historic town.     These three well-presented cottages, Cloisters Cottage (ref UKC1870), Stable Cottage (ref UKC1871) and Stable End (ref UKC1872) have been converted from parts of a historic building on the outskirts of the ancient Stannary town of Lostwithiel, providing charming holiday accommodation with a little local history attached. Peregrine Hall has 9 acres of woodland, gardens, terraces and walks for you to enjoy or simply relax with a cream tea on the terrace. The house stands on a hill overlooking the town of Lostwithiel, and was a gun site during the English Civil War. It was first known as St Faith’s House of Mercy, a refuge for ‘wayward girls’, who were rescued from Bodmin jail and put to work running a laundry which served Lanhydrock Estate and the local community.
    The town of Lostwithiel is well known for being the centre of Cornwall’s antiques industry and is well served with great restaurants, local award winning pubs, craft shops and cafés on the River Fowey. This beautiful river is spanned by an ancient bridge with its own little beach and picnic area, and is within walking distance from Peregrine Hall. The riverside walks along its banks are a must, and if you are lucky you may see kingfishers, otters and other wildlife. Restormel Castle and The Duchy of Cornwall Nurseries are also close by and a must for all that visit the area. Lostwithiel provides the perfect base for touring the Duchy of Cornwall from its north coast with Padstow, Port Isaac and Polzeath, to the south coast with Fowey, Polperro and Mevagissey. All are lovely fishing villages and coastal towns, with many attractions for everyone, from sea fishing and kayaking to surfing and sailing.
    The Lanhydrock Estate is a gothic stately home, gardens and grounds which is closely linked with Lostwithiel and is a stunning example of a National Trust house. There are also woodland walks, off road cycle trails and bike hire along with a museum and tea rooms. For the energetic, try golf at Lanhydrock, cycling along the nearby Camel Trail, or a walk to Respryn Bridge can all be enjoyed. Horse riding, cinemas and the renowned Eden Project are easily reached, as indeed, are many National Trust gardens. Beach 7 miles. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

The town of St Austell lies nearby, with a range of shops and restaurants. Once a major mining industry flourished here and there is an fascinating museum portraying this incredible story. Fowey, with its narrow streets, boutique shops, pubs and thriving harbour awaits, whilst the ancient town of Looe and nearby Polperro, both steeped in tales of smuggling, are must visits. Inland, the unique Eden Project, with huge Biomes housing the world’s largest indoor rainforest is an amazing place whilst take a trip back in time with a visit to Charlestown, with its fleet of tall ships and the setting for many films and TV series. Wherever you choose to go, whatever you choose to do – memorable days out are unlimited and at the end of each one, return to your wonderful cottage, relax and recharge and do it all again tomorrow!
