    There are many pretty coves and inlets to discover along this coastline including Crackington Haven and Boscastle. A bit further to the south is the fishing port of Padstow and quaint Port Isaac of Doc Martin fame and 20 miles to the north is the fabulous coastal town of Bude. If you fancy crossing over the ‘border’ into Devon and enjoy open spaces then Dartmoor National Park is 33 miles or so to the east – here you can enjoy a day of walking and discover the vast moorland and roam the craggy landscape, defined by forests, rivers, wetlands and rock formations or tors. Or search the Neolithic tombs, Bronze Age stone circles and abandoned medieval farmhouses in this amazing landscape!

Why not visit The Maritime Museum, head to the 16th-century Pendennis Castle, walk along the rugged coast paths or visit one of the beautiful gardens at Trebah, Glendurgan or Enys Gardens?     This is an ideal base to explore this part of the country, the beach is over 3 miles of golden sand, and on a calm day you a picture the smugglers coming in with their stolen goods. Ideal for all ages, and open to dogs all year round, our four-legged friends can run free whilst you enjoy a stroll or maybe take a dip in the sea. This is a very popular location for surfers as it is not quite as busy as the neighbouring Fistral Beach in Newquay, it offers great waves at Droskyn Point and at the western end of the beach, and there is an outside tap at the property for washing wetsuits and boards with drying hooks for your wetsuits. For those that enjoy history check out Perranzabuloe Millennium sundial on the cliffs below Droskyn car park, the views are stunning.
    Ideal for a mini vacation, just over 8 miles from Newquay it is surrounded by smaller villages such as Goonhavern where the Saints Trail has just been opened to walkers and cyclists. Travelling west is the village of St Agnes, home to dog-friendly beaches, and spectacular coast paths it is a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, sample some of the delicacies at the local pubs and restaurants whilst you are here. Walkers you will be spoilt, the coast path between Newquay and St Agnes offers stunning views of rugged coastlines and sandy expanses, rich in mining history at Cligga Head you can still see minerals oozing out of the cliffs. Wander through the village along the river, or drive to Carn Brea and find the ruins of the old tin mines. Just over 2 miles away is Hayle, a town built on an estuary, with a variety of shops. The local beach Gwithian is 3 miles of golden sand surrounded by sand dunes, for your four-legged friends and Riviere Towans is dog friendly year-round.

    If you want to go further afield, a trip to Marazion is essential, as at low tide you can walk across to St Michaels Mount from Marazion beach; it is advisable to book tickets if you wish to go into the gardens or castle. The beach has a seasonal dog ban during the summer months when dogs are allowed after 6pm and before 10am at this time of the year. Just a little further on is the most westerly town of Penzance, where you can wander winding streets, find subtropical gardens, and sit on the promenade admiring the view.

    Truro is the capital of Cornwall and is 30 minutes’ drive and is a wonderful day out. The cobbled streets are full of small shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, and the cuisine available will cater for everybody’s requirements. Find small shops offering local produce, sample the local gins or wander around the large market. The beautiful Truro Cathedral dominates the city and is a favourite for visitors.
