- Orchard Pl, EnglandTucked away in a quiet pedestrian lane in the historic quarter of Newlyn, Bucca Cottage, once an original fisherman’s cottage (built in 1852), provides comfortable and well-presented semi-detached holiday accommodation. Newlyn is steeped in Cornish tradition, famous for fishing and art, for which the light and scenery provide the perfect backdrop. The cottage is just a short distance from the Newlyn Art Gallery and the seafront. The world-famous Newlyn School of Art provides exceptional tuition offering short courses from beginners to the more advanced. The area is becoming a popular destination with foodies, notably Mackerel Sky and the much acclaimed Tolcarne pub, which has been transformed by top chef Ben Tuncliffe into a first-class gastro pub. A great selection of pubs, eateries, and shops are on the doorstep, providing local fresh fish from Newlyn’s fish market, traditional Cornish food and ales, cafés, tea rooms, and a traditional fish and chip shop selling fresh fish, just-landed from the boat.
Nearby Mousehole is a 5-minute drive or 20-minute flat coastal walk. It provided the inspiration for the popular children’s book ‘The Mousehole Cat’, offering winding streets with delightful cottages, art galleries, craft shops, and cafés. A pretty sheltered harbour with two small beaches, the village attracts visitors all year round and is famous for its wonderful Christmas lights.
The historic town of Marazion with St Michaels Mount perched on its tiny rocky island overlooking sweeping Mounts Bay, offers a wide sandy beach ideal for bathing, windsurfing and kite surfing. Great for relaxing on a sunny summer’s day, equally breathtaking for a stroll on a windswept wild winter’s day!
Visit the Minack Open Air Theatre cut into the rock face overlooking Porthcurno, the legendary Land’s End, and Sennen Cove with its beautiful long white sandy beach popular with surfers. Wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers will enjoy nearby Marazion marshes or Hayle estuary. If you are looking for sub-tropical gardens and National Trust properties the area will not disappoint.
