    These semi-detached barn conversions have been converted in 2019 to provide ‘reverse level’, comfortable and spacious accommodation, and are located on a small working farm. Accessed via an unmade lane, they lie in a quiet setting with views over the surrounding countryside to the coast. They are ideal for extended families or friends looking for a relaxing location, perfect for that main summer family holiday and equally appealing for couples or smaller groups and their dogs who are looking to explore the quieter windswept beaches during the winter months. The owners live on-site and are on hand should you need advice or assistance during your stay.

    Trotters (ref UK10739) has been converted to a very good standard and includes high, apex ceilings, beams and wooden floors on the first floor, and comfortable bedrooms on the ground floor. Bull Pen (ref UK10740) is a two-storey stone barn comprising reverse level accommodation with three bedrooms on the ground floor. Outside, Trotters has a balcony-style terrace, and Bull Pen has a decked area where guests can sit out and relax.

    Nearby, the vibrant village of St Agnes has some lovely individual village shops, pubs, cafés, delightful sandy coves and beaches. The rugged north coast and popular coastal resorts of Perranporth and Porthtowan are just a short drive away. The area is renowned for its surfing and cycle trails with surf board and bicycle hire, endless coastal paths, golf courses, horse riding, watersports, fishing, wildlife and bird watching, and some amazing sub-tropical gardens make the area appealing whatever the season. From the beach at low tide, you can walk to the neighbouring and equally stunning beach at Chapel Porth to the east. The village of Porthtowan offers a couple of cafés, a restaurant, a beach bar serving food and directly overlooking the beach (perfect for great views of the sunset), a village convenience store, a fish and chip shop as well as ice cream outlets.

    If it’s coastal scenery you’re after, you can pick up the South-West Coast Path in Porthtowan (just a 5-minute stroll away) and either head towards Portreath to the west or Chapel Porth and St Agnes to the east. Either direction offers breathtaking scenery, you can pick up the coast path at many other places along the Cornish coast too, and you will be met by rugged coves such as Godrevy point with its resident seal colony, quaint seaside villages and harbours dotted along the dramatic coastline. There are several excellent cycle trails nearby including the coast to coast trail from neighbouring Portreath to Devoran, as well as the well-known Camel Trail which runs from Padstow to Wadebridge and on to Bodmin. The Great Flat Lode mining trail which is a waking and cycle trail can be joined nearby too and offers some stunning views of both coastlines as well as being home to a multitude of old engine houses, telling stories of the old mining times which Cornwall was once famous for.

    Porthtowan’s close proximity to the main A30 means you can easily access the rest of this stunning county. With a whole host of National Trust properties and gardens to choose from, including St Michaels Mount in Marazion, or the sub-tropical gardens of Glendurgan near Falmouth. Also accessible from here is the famous Eden Project and the Minack Theatre, a spectacular, open air theatre perched on the cliff near Porthcurno. The famous surfing town of Newquay is a short drive away, where you will find an aquarium, Newquay Zoo, a trampoline park or concrete waves skate park, swimming pools with water slides and more beautiful beaches. Adjacent to the owner’s property it offers a cosy and comfortable retreat, the private garden terrace is a wonderful place to sit, enjoy the sun and admire the beautiful countryside, having morning coffee, a light lunch, an evening meal or just relaxing with a drink. For the colder evenings snuggle up next to the wood burner with a hot drink and enjoy the views from the comfy sofa.
    This part of the world is known for its rugged coastline a favourite for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts as well as it is for its mining heritage. Why not explore the area by following a path from behind the barn, look for the old disused quarry that has been converted into an open theatre. If you want to take a closer look at the old Engine Houses Carn Brea is about 20 mins away, the view takes in both coasts, with a huge 90ft granite obelisk, in memory of Francis Basset. There is a door on the side leading to a viewing platform! Take a torch and wear sensible footwear. For those that would prefer flatter terrain then drive 20 mins to the outstanding Tehidy Woods Country Park, there are over 9 miles of pathways and 250 acres of woods and lake. You may be able to spot the tame squirrels, swans, geese and ducks as well as an abundance of birds. It can get a little muddy, so waterproof footwear is a good idea. It is also a great place to cycle, if you haven’t bought a bike with you, you can hire them from Mountain Bike Hire in Illogan. If you want to do more cycling then a must is the Portreath to Bissoe trail, start at the beach, stop at the pub and then return to the beach, a really good way to spend a few hours, mainly on bridleways and country lanes. If the weather takes a turn for the worse head to Heartlands Visitor Attraction, just over 9 miles away, free to enter it embodies Cornish heritage and culture.
    This is a dog friendly attraction, visit the Diaspora Botanical Gardens or follow the World Heritage Exhibitions, the year long events programme has a mix of farmers markets, music events, art exhibitions, theatre, visit the web site to see what is on before you arrive. Lanner village is 2 mins away, it has a village store, bakery, fish and chip shop as well as two pubs, so you don’t even need to go far! For our four legged friends there are dog friendly beaches at Portreath, Porthtowan and Durgan, they will adore the smells at Tehidy and Carn Brea, at the end of a busy day everyone will be happy to get back and put their feet up!!     Portreath is a fishing harbour and another popular beach for surfers and families, great for exploring rock pools, the soft sand and sheltered location is popular all year round. For walkers that want to explore the historic mining area then the Twelveheads to Chacewater Circular Walk is a must, you will see the copper and tin mining in this amazing valley.
