This pet-friendly, bright, semi-detached holiday home is comfortably furnished with plenty of personal touches. The property is situated down a quiet country lane and is surrounded by countryside. The patio doors from the living room lead to a lovely patio area with far-reaching views down to the Atlantic Coast, ideal for a morning cup of coffee or alfresco dining. Just over a mile outside Padstow, you are ideally situated to visit the many tourist attractions that the north coast has to offer. Padstow has an array of shops, pubs and restaurants, including Rick Stein’s fish restaurant. You are close to the Camel Trail, where you can walk or cycle along a disused railway track by the Camel Estuary, taking in the bird life, to Wadebridge and beyond to Bodmin. Just a short drive away are the many sandy beaches of the north coast, including Watergate Bay, the home of extreme watersports. Visit the famous surfing beaches of Newquay, as well as a zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium. Horse riding and golf nearby. Beach 2½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

These two stone built holiday cottages (ref 29227 and ref TJU) date back to the 17 century and enjoy a rural location with superb sea views. Pet-friendly Downhouse Cottage was extended in Victorian times, while Downhouse has a rustic feel with a clome oven in the fireplace and a large garden. Water is supplied from a borehole; the water is wonderful and is tested annually, so no need for bottled water.
Both cottages benefit from a sitting-out area with stunning views of the coastline. Surrounded by countryside, they are perfect for walkers to enjoy the views from the South West Coastal Path. Ideally situated for visiting some of the many attractions of Cornwall, including Tintagel, the mythical home of King Arthur, Boscastle with its harbour and Port Isaac, made famous by the TV’s ‘Doc Martin’. Further down the coast are Polzeath with its surfing beach, and Rock where you can take a ferry across to Padstow with its array of interesting shops, pubs and restaurants, including Rick Stein’s famous restaurant.. As for things to do in the area, Pendeen and its surroundings offer a wealth of activities and attractions. The historic Pendeen lighthouse, perched on the cliffs, will give you an insight into its maritime history. The area is surrounded by mining heritage, and you can visit Geevor Tin Mine or Botallack mines featured in Poldark. Portheras Cove is ½ mile away, and Portherras Beach (a secluded and dog-friendly cove perfect for picnics and paddling) is one of the many beaches in the area. If you travel further you will come to Porthcurno beach, a stunning secluded beach and how to the famous outdoor Minack theatre, carved into the cliffs. The nearest town is St Just full of artisan shops, galleries restaurants, pubs, and cafes, for a full day out head to Lands’ End just over 10 miles away.
Two dogs are welcome (but please keep off the furniture!) and there is a designated doggy shower outside as well as dog hairdryer.
The hot tub is emptied and cleaned and changed before each arrival. Fill instructions for filling and heating can be found in the welcome folder.

Visit the quaint harbour towns of Newlyn and Mousehole, and the romantic open air Minack Theatre is just a short drive away, built in to the cliff face overlooking the beautiful beach at Porthcurno, with stunning performances throughout the year. Surf at Sennen beach or walk along the glorious white sandy beach or cliff top to Lands End. Fishing is available locally, and the area is popular for bird watching with the marshes at Marazion and Hayle attracting bird and wildlife enthusiasts from around the world. Welcome to Windmills; a truly stunning cottage set within a secluded coastal location close to the beautiful fishing port of Mevagissey. Once parked, walk up to your door with its charming gold seahorse door knocker.
Inside, all is revealed, a superb open-plan living space, with hand-crafted fixtures and fittings throughout. The kitchen is well-equipped, bright, and spacious with its own breakfast bar. The dining area accommodates six guests with ease whilst the living room has quality soft furnishings and sumptuous seating, a lovely wood burner for those chilly evenings, and a generous-sized TV. There is a useful utility room with a washing machine too. The stairs with their stylish black and white banisters lead up to the first floor from where the views become even more impressive. All three bedrooms offer en-suite facilities and underfloor heating; bedroom one has a king-size bed, TV, walk-in shower, and, oh, those sea views! Bedroom two, with its charming mint green colour scheme, has a kingsize zip and link facility, sea views, a quirky sun-funnel, and a walk-in shower. The third bedroom is quite delightful in subtle pink hues, with a double bed, shower, and superb hand-made vanity units. Venture outside and you will find a secluded space with garden furniture, ideal for morning coffee before you set off!
The hot tub is in an idyllic setting with room for eight guests, and offers a wondrous view towards Mevagissey harbour. Then, of course, you have your own sympathetically restored railway carriage! With super lighting and electric sockets. You can take a ferry from Mevagissey to Fowey, an ancient port set within beautiful surroundings and full of charm. Visit St Austell, a town with many amenities and visible links to the once-thriving mining industry here.
The Wheal Martyn Museum is well worth a visit, whilst the world-renowned Eden Project is a short drive away; here huge Biomes protect the world’s largest indoor rainforest and so much more besides! This stunning lodge lies just minutes from the delightful towns of Padstow and Newquay, and the amazing coastline of North Cornwall. There is a private hot tub to enjoy, with extended decking areas, as well as sun loungers and outdoor easy chairs. Guests are able to take advantage of entrance to the bird of prey centre at a charge of £10, and The Retallack Resort, literally across the road, has a spa and excellent facilities to keep the children amused, including water skiing and a surf simulator. A visit to Padstow, with its Michelin starred restaurants, cafés, local shops and traditional pubs, is an absolute must. It makes a great day out for all whilst meandering around the lanes that gravitate to the quaint working harbour where you can watch the day boats depart. Rick Stein has a large presence in the town with delis, a chip shop and cookery school. Padstow sits at the mouth of the Camel Estuary, a tidal river which is home to sea life and wading birds, and has its very own multi-use trail that hugs the shoreline as its drifts inland. There are many excellent bike hire shops right on the quay, and you can cycle inland to the pretty market town of Wadebridge. Or if you are feeling energetic, you can cycle all the way to Bodmin deep within the Cornish countryside, with the reward of fish and chips on the quayside and a pint of local ale from the nearby Brewery at Rock! Alternatively you can catch the ferry from Padstow across the mouth of the estuary to the little village of Rock and hire a stand-up paddle board or sailing dinghy, or walk the coastal path around Daymer Bay and on to Polzeath, which is a great spot for surfing.
Newquay, the county’s capital for surf culture, boasts many charming beaches which offer something for everyone. You can learn to surf at one of the many schools, or just laze away the day on one of the quieter more family friendly beaches such as Porth or the stunning Lusty Glaze, which has a great beachside pizzeria and rum bar with live music on most nights during the summer. This is a favourite with the locals and is a great place to watch the sun set.
Watergate Bay just minutes from the lodge, has a beach with a golden stretch of sand with cafés and pubs with views to die for. Truro, the county capital, as well as Fowey, Port Isaac and St Ives, are all easily reached for days out if you can bring yourself to leave this beautiful part of Cornwall. This area of Cornwall is well known for its golf, and Eagle Owl Lodge is within reach of at least five great courses ranging from The Point at Polzeath, St Enedoc, Trevose and Lanhydrock. A great tip is to start your ride in Wadebridge and cycle to Padstow where you can enjoy fish and chips on the quay side and a pint in the local pubs before setting off back.
Newquay, Polzeath, Mawgan Porth, Watergate Bay plus other hidden coves along this coastline provide some of the best surfing spots in the UK. There are many registered surf schools with great hire shops and coaching, so why not try this exhilarating sport in one of the most iconic surf spots? Padstow harbour also has many day boats that provide fishing trips so you can catch your evening’s supper.
Peregrine Lodge is the perfect place from which to tour Cornwall with easy access to the main road network and the train at nearby Newquay.

Set on a 120-acre, family-run working farm, these two lovely cottages (Goose Cottage ref UKC2676 and Barn Cottage ref UKC2682), offer comfortable and welcoming accommodation. Located just ¾ mile from Widemouth Bay, one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in north Cornwall, there is something here to suit guests of all ages. You could even book both of the properties together for extended family or friends.
The larger cottage, Goose Cottage is a charming barn conversion and boast lovely views of the surrounding rural landscape. With spacious open plan living space, it is ideal for enjoyable gatherings of families or friends. Barn Cottage offers a first floor living room, complete with doors which open onto a small decked balcony where guests can admire the magnificent views across rolling fields and out to the sea. Both properties enjoy shared access to the range of facilities found on-site, including a tennis court and a children’s outdoor play area with slides, swings and a climbing wall. Why not take a dip in the heated outdoor swimming pool, or challenge friends and family to the variety of games found in the small indoor games barn including table tennis, air hockey and a small pool table. A communal utility room with washing machines and a tumble dryer is available for both properties. Friendly chickens, ducks and geese roam the courtyard, and the tame peacock may pay you a visit to your door. There is a woodland walk to the rear, and a 20-minute walk on a footpath across the fields to the front will take you across sheep grazed meadows to Widemouth Bay.
Widemouth Bay is an extremely popular holiday destination and is world famous for surfing. It has far reaching, exceptional sandy beaches, and provides miles of coastal paths for enthusiastic walkers. The well loved tourist town of Bude is just 3 miles further up the coast. The town offers an indoor swimming pool, shops, restaurants, horse riding, a golf course and tenpin bowling. For the keen walker there are many opportunities both along the south west coastal path route, which runs the entire coastline of Cornwall and offers stunning cliff walks, and on nearby Bodmin Moor. Located just metres from the beautiful Camel Trail, this former threshing barn, now converted to stylish holiday accommodation, provides the ideal base to relax and enjoy the county of Cornwall. It lies in a rural setting with the Camel River running past the barn, and has use of private riverside area, with an enclosed garden, at your discretion. This stretch of the river is a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’ and therefore is mostly left as natural as possible to promote and encourage wildlife. If you are lucky, you may see otters, deer, stoats, bats, salmon, sea trout and a variety of birds including rarer kingfishers, nuthatch, owls and buzzards.
Travelling west from the barn will first bring you to Wadebridge, a delightful market town with all you need, including bike hire, a cinema, supermarkets and many local craft and gift shops. While on route to Wadebridge, the Camel Trail passes the Camel Valley Vineyard, a family run business that produces award winning wines. Continuing along the trail from Wadebridge, the views open up across the amazing Camel Estuary until you reach the coastal town of Padstow with its working harbour, narrow streets and Rick Stein’s seafood restaurant.

The ancient town of Bodmin has many attractions including the Bodmin and Welford Steam Railway, which leaves the old town station and chugs down the valley to the mainline branch, what a way to tour the county. The ancient Bodmin Jail is also well worth visiting for a little bit of ghoulish history. The surrounding Bodmin Moor offers a great escape from the norm where you can find Jamaica Inn, immortalised in Daphne Du Maurier’s book of the same name. The stunning National Trust property of Lanhydrock House is close by and has many activities throughout the year. You may wish to explore coastal Cornwall, and Chapel Barn is equidistant from both the dramatic north coast and the sub tropical south coast, both with very different scenery. The beaches of the north and the villages of Port Isaac, home to the TV series ’Doc Martin’, and Polzeath have many attractions including many world class golf courses, great local pubs and celebrity chefs including Nathan Outlaw and Rick Stein. The surfing town of Newquay, Watergate Bay and the sea faring and literary town of Fowey, all offer superb and different days while enjoying your stay in Chapel Barn.
