Origins for The Anchor date back to the early 1700s, when it was originally built to provide lodgings and sustenance for the workers during draining of the Fens and its New Bedford River. This was actually a straight canal, formerly used by merchants to transport their goods, and is now used only for recreational purpose and acts as a natural haven for wild birds.
Situated on the edge of The Fens, the Anchor is surrounded by scenic tracks and routes for walkers, runners, amblers, cyclists, rowers and fishing, all benefiting from the stunning views of the River Great Ouse and its meadows. The property nestles quietly in the small rural hamlet of Sutton, just 15 minutes’ drive from historical Ely and 30 minutes’ drive from the University City of Cambridge. The village of Yetholm is a couple of miles away with pubs, garage, butcher, grocery store and post office. Kelso is only 7 miles away with supermarkets and a wide range of shops. Edinburgh and Alnwick with its famous gardens are about an hours drive. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

Located on the west of the beautiful Roseland Peninsula a few miles north of St Mawes St Just-in-Roseland. It is a verdant village of manicured gardens and pretty cottages leading down to the woodlands and creeks by the Percuil River. The village is best known for the 13th century church of St Just the Martyr. Overlooking St Just Pool, a tree lined creek, and the church which is set in an amphitheatre like graveyard filled with an array of colourful sub-tropical plants and shrubs, a botanical project started over 100 years ago.
