Just a short walk away is the medieval and historic hilltop town of Rye. Head to the harbour for quiet beaches, picturesque walks and coastal birdlife.
Rye is steeped in history and is well worth exploring, with a range of restaurants, bars, boutique shops and historical sites. Wander through the historic Landgate and along the cobbled streets to admire the House with Two Doors (filmed as part of the BBC Series ‘Mapp and Lucia’ and the infamous Mermaid Street). Take lunch at one of the lovely pubs serving food, followed by a visit to Rye Pottery for a creative afternoon. The glorious long sandy beaches and dunes of Camber Sands are also just 5 miles up the road. For wine enthusiasts, Chapel Down and Gusbourne Vineyards are well worth a visit where local wine can be sampled or enjoyed within the restaurant. Further afield are the interesting historic towns of Hastings and Battle. The Old Town in Hastings is a popular historic area with numerous traditional pubs with a vibrant music scene. A busy day of exploration can be rounded off with fish and chips on the seafront. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Located within the South Downs National Park, North End is a walkable mile from Findon with its village shops and four pubs and excellent restaurant, just 5 miles from the coast at Worthing, 11 miles from Arundel with its castle and cathedral, and 19 miles from Brighton. The country lane leading to the property emerges into peaceful countryside dotted with horses, cows and pheasants. You feel the peace and tranquillity as soon as you pull up to the gravel driveway of The Dog and Trout.
Upon entering the front door of this flint-clad barn conversion, you will find an open concept living area that contains a fully equipped kitchen as well as a living and dining area. Featuring granite worktops and country-style cabinets, the kitchen has all the amenities you could want. You will be spoiled for choice when it comes to activities in the area. It is a great location for walking or cycling, lying between the South Downs Way and Monarchs Way within the South Downs. There are many sites of historic or natural interest to visit, including the historic town of Arundel, Chactonbury and Cissbury Rings and the Weald and Downland Museum. Beaches and water sports are nearby at Worthing, Shoresham-by-sea, Ferring and Littlehampton, and shops and restaurants can be found locally in the village of Findon or further afield in Brighton or Horsham.

These two pretty, beamed, semi-detached holiday cottages, (refs 27442 and 27443) with mezzanine floor, have been attractively converted from former cow byres and are set in the owners’ 14-acre small holding which is home to farm animals including sheep and pigs. On-site is a small children’s play area. A 10-minute walk across the fields brings you into Sedlescombe with its village green and traditional country pub. In close proximity to Battle, with its famous battlefield and abbey, built to commemorate the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Relive one of the most famous days in history, and join the 1066 walk from the doorstep. Take a trip on the Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway from Tenterden, also known as ’The Jewel of the Weald’, through the Rother Levels to Bodiam, one of the most evocative moated castles (National Trust), built in 1385. Discover the one time coastal smuggling town of Hastings and medieval Cinque Port town of Rye with its cobbled streets. Picturesque sand dunes and interesting wildlife can be explored at Camber. Why not visit the UK’s steepest funicular railway located only a few minutes’ walk away and take one of the original Victorian coaches up to the top of the West Hill to visit Hastings Castle and St Clements Caves, the location of the Smugglers adventures. Offering a choice of Adventure, Crazy or Pirate Golf you can test your skills on the beachside courses, Hastings adventure course itself is the home of the annual World Crazy Golf Championships.

Please note that due to the level of the apartment and there not being a lift it is not suitable for anyone that has mobility concerns or for children under the age of 11. Please no hen or stag parties. There is no washing machine provided at the apartment however there is a laundrette situated only a few doors away. An additional apartment in the building ’Duke of Wellington HQ’ is also available should you require space for more guests and can be booked alongside Wellesley Retreat.

Mount House Barn is a tastefully renovated 17th-century barn ideally located in the pretty village of Burwash, surrounding the property with wonderful views. The property boasts a wood burner in the living room to cosy up in front of in the colder months. The garden outside is a show stopper, as it is surrounded by luscious greenery from the surrounding fields; why not sit outside with your morning coffee and take in the fresh air around you, or dine al fresco in the evening with a hearty meal, watching the stars above you.
The property is surrounded by things to do for all the members of the family. Close by is the All Things Dog Park which allows your four-legged friend to explore and play while still being in the safety of the enclosed field. The park is open for 12 hours a day, all week allowing you to go and play any time of the day.
A short 15-minute drive away is the High Weald AONB which is filled with things to do. There are endless footpaths to take, each one producing its stunning scenery, or hike up some of the hills and get some breathtaking views below you, creating perfect photo opportunities. If cycling is more your thing, there are several cycle trails you can take, weiving you around the area into the most stunning locations.
Bodium Castle is also within a 15-minute drive and is filled with a plethora of different things to do. Interactive activities are held frequently for children to join in and get a taste of what it was like to live in Medieval times, joining quests and designing maps making this a memorable adventure for all. Other nearby areas include Eastbourne, Battle and Rye, all of which have adventures of their own.

Located within the South Downs National Park, in the pretty village of Singleton, The Old Surgery is a self-contained, two bedroom holiday cottage able to facilitate up to four guests. The property forms a small part of Corner Cottage, one of Singleton’s most iconic and historic houses. Dating back to 1731, the whole property has undergone a full restoration. This beautiful listed building has been entirely re-built by local craftsmen and retains many of its original features while encasing state-of-the-art contemporary living.

The wing of the main house was once known by the community as the village surgery. As a nod to its history, it is now called The Old Surgery and has its own separate entrance and French windows that flow onto a bespoke patio, surrounded by the larger walled garden that surrounds the entire house. The owners live in the main house alongside running part of the property as a B&B. The Old Surgery also features a few fun furnishings relating to its medical past. You will find decorative old medicine bottles beautifully displayed behind glass casings in the ground floor bedroom walls, and a vintage medical wall mount which doctors used to put their X-rays on, doubling up as a quirky wall light in the hallway.

The cottage living room has a large wall mounted Smart TV in front of the Swedish style sofa, so that you can snuggle down in front of the wood burner and relax at the end of a long day out exploring West Sussex. The kitchen is open plan with the living room and dining area, and is equipped with everything you will need to self-cater during your stay, when you’re not dining out at one of the local pubs. The cottage has two bedrooms, a ground floor twin bedroom, with zip and link beds so you can have a super kingsize if you prefer, whilst a spacious bedroom occupies the first floor with a double bed at one end and a single day bed at the other for flexible sleeping arrangements. The beautiful bathroom on the ground floor with its highly individual decorative tiles has a small, yet very deep bath which is a sit-down Japanese design. There is also a separate state of the art power shower.

There is a superb choice of activities and places to visit in West Sussex. The village of Singleton is only a short distance from the historic cathedral city of Chichester, and a few minutes’ away from the Goodwood Estate famed for its motor racing, golfing and horse racing. The renowned Cowdray House and Polo Club are also nearby, as well as Petworth House, Arundel Castle, Fishbourne Roman Palace, and Weald and Downland Museums are also nearby. You can spend the day immersing yourself in the best of the counties cultural offerings. Beach 12½ miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant 175 yards.

There are bi-folding doors leading outside from the well-equipped kitchen/dining area which is well-placed to allow you to admire the views across the garden and to the duck pond in the field beyond. Upstairs, there is an elegantly finished master en-suite bedroom and a second double and single bedroom which share a bathroom and overlook the quintessential cottage front garden which will be blooming with flowers in the spring. Outside, the enclosed lawn garden with covered pergola, dining patio and barbecue offers the perfect spot to unwind with an al fresco breakfast or dinner, whilst the sun-drenched south facing patio with awning is great for basking in the sunshine.

Owl Cottage is a delightful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life with its location in the centre of one of the most picturesque villages in Sussex and surrounded by the South Downs National Park. The cottage is all one level and the entrance is easily accessed by a sloping pathway.

On entering the cottage through the porch you arrive into the beautifully decorated living area with a pitched ceiling giving it a light and spacious feel. With a comfortable settee and armchairs surrounding the wood burner there is a warm and welcoming feel immediately. The kitchen fitted with modern amenities including a useful washing machine with drying facility, great for those muddy days on the Downs and French doors open to the garden with table and chairs to enjoy in the summer months. The spacious bedroom has ample wardrobe space and a kingsize bed. A shower room completes the picture.

The garden area to the front of Owl Cottage has a lovely bench and a sweet garden pond which the local birdlife love. Within minutes of Owl Cottage you will find a bustling tea room local shop and a choice of three local hostelries within short walking distance.

Amberley is at the foot of the South Downs and is noted for its many thatched cottages. It is a village that has managed to retain its character and appeal over the centuries and it will delight all visitors. The River Arun with its tidal plain cuts through the South Downs at Amberley. The South Downs Way crosses the river beside the village where a walk either east or west will soon present you with stunning Downland views and total seclusion. The tidal river plain north of the village forms the Amberley Wildbrooks, a Site of Special Scientific Interest known for its wildfowl and maintained by Sussex Wildlife Trust. The RSPB reserve at Pulborough Brooks neighbours Amberley and is a wetland haven for bird life and an overwintering ground for many migrant species. It has many opportunities for studying the wild life from several strategically located hides.

Only a mile away is the Amberley Working Museum which was used as a set location for the James Bond Film ’A View to a Kill’. It is a 36-acre open air museum set into a chalk quarry and is dedicated to the industrial heritage of South East England. There are many themed events throughout the year so it is worth taking a look to see what’s on. Two miles to the east, Parham House and Gardens is an imposing Elizabethan house facing the Downs. The rooms are graced with fresh flowers cut daily from the four acre walled garden. The main rooms are the Great Hall, Great Chamber and the Long Gallery which at the top of the house does leave a tremendous visual impression. Five miles downstream from Amberley, south of the Downs, you come to Arundel, a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. If you fancy making your visit a little different why not catch the train one stop down the line and come back on the river. The town offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tea rooms. A trip to Arundel would never be complete without visiting the castle. The seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens Arundel Castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and to climb the 131 steps to the Keep to take in the views is worth the effort.

Places to visit and events include RSPB Pulborough Brooks, Sussex Game, Country Fair, Goodwood Festival of Speed, Petworth Festival, Arundel Festival and Goodwood Revival. Beach 10⅓ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

From the winding front path, a circular boot room reveals the entrance hall with a cosy reading corner and stairs to the first floor. To the left of the hall is an attractive beamed sitting room where deep, comfortable sofas, low level lighting, large Smart TV and an open fireplace create a relaxed, welcoming ambience. Across the hall, the long living room has a sofa and leads to the spacious kitchen at the far end of the house. With a huge island breakfast bar, triple electric Aga, an upholstered pew bench and doors to the garden, it is a fabulous space to find inspiration for a dinner party. A convenient utility room lies to the side, and set off the sitting room at the centre of the house, the orangery has a long dining table and corner sofas facing out into the garden through French doors. A lovely spot for canapés, with the evening sun casting its dappled light through the trees.
Upstairs on the first floor are four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study. The vast triple-aspect master features a striking four-poster, kingsize bed and garden views, and the second bedroom has a double bed with dressing area. Bedrooms three and four have zip and link beds that can be set up as doubles on request. On the second floor is a hidden delight tucked out of the way from the main social areas: a TV/games den complete with bean bags. The perfect hideaway for the kids to enjoy their own private holiday space.
Outside, to the front of the house is a car port with table tennis, and a lawn with bistro table. To the rear, a huge patio with dining and lounge furniture leads out to extensive, securely enclosed gardens fringed with mature trees and shrubs. A magnificent home with space for all the family plus one dog to roam, play and relax, this inviting home is perfect for extended families and small, responsible groups.
North Hurst sits on the edge of the quiet, leafy village of West Chiltington Common which lies in the lea of the South Downs. A traditional village pub is just a 5-minute walk away, and just opposite is a micro brewery. A mile up the road, West Chiltington is a hidden treasure, full of charming cottages, winding lanes and friendly shops and pubs. It offers a quiet charm and a 12th-century church, and like many Sussex villages provides a tranquil retreat only 50 miles south of London.
The area sits in the heartland of the renowned Sussex wine region, with the famous Nyetimber Vineyard just a couple of miles up the road. Also nearby are Nutbourne and Ambriel, along with Upperton, Stopham and Kinsbrook. The South Downs National Park is a mile from the village, West Chiltington Common being about half way along its entire length and not too far from Chanctonbury Ring. The Wildbrooks at nearby Pulborough offers many excellent walks along the banks of the River Arun, and uninterrupted views south towards the Downs. Three miles south in the direction of Storrington at the foot of the South Downs, Parham House is a magnificent Elizabethan home. To the west is Petworth House and deer park, landscaped by Capability Brown. Petworth itself is full of quaint houses and cottages, antique shops and tearooms. Close by is the West Sussex Golf Club with golf courses at Goodwood and Cowdray. North Hurst makes a great base to enjoy any of these as it is within a 30-minute drive of them all.
