  • Pip's Cottage, CornwallInstant Book Overlay Image
    Penzance, England
This lovely stone property, constructed out of Lamorna granite, is situated in the quiet village of Madron, just outside Penzance on a hill overlooking Mounts Bay and the picturesque St Michaels Mount. Although this cottage is located inside the village, the view from the double bedroom is stunning with a rooftop view of the Mount! The cottage is ideally suited to two people but is flexible enough to sleep a maximum of three.
Madron Church was originally the mother church for Penzance and gained notoriety in 1805 following the death of Nelson at the battle of Trafalgar. News of his untimely demise was first passed to shore in Penzance from HMS Pickle that was en route to Falmouth. The Mayor of Penzance then led a procession to Madron church where the first memorial service in England was held for Admiral Nelson.
Madron is a central spot to act as a base for exploring west Cornwall. The dramatic, moody, west of Cornwall has a plethora of sandy sheltered coves and rocky headlands, all of which can be viewed from the Southwest coastal path. Pip’s Cottage is very close to the traditional fishing villages of Newlyn and Mousehole. The ancient standing stones of Lanyon Quoit and West Lanyon Quoit are all within ½ mile as is the Men An Tol with its interesting vertical ring shaped centre stone! The Celtic Madron Well was the only source of water for Penzance and Madron until the 18th Century. There is a good bus service to Penzance from just outside the cottage. Beach 3⅓ miles.
