Tucked away on the edge of the picture postcard village of Coldingham, Garden Cottage has lovely light, spacious living areas and a great bathroom with both a shower cubicle and a bath. St Abbs is a fishing harbour with a café/restaurant, and St Abbs Head National Nature Reserve is a coastal headland with breathtaking panoramic views and awesome cliffs where thousands of seabirds nest in the spring. You can enjoy amazing coastal walks, including a 30-mile route from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Cockburnspath, or take a boat trips from Seahouses to the Farne Islands, or from Berwick-upon-Tweed on the River Tweed out into the North Sea. Edinburgh is under an hour by train from Berwick, a fascinating Elizabethan walled town. Purves Cottage is a prominent and historic yet homely and cosy building, formerly a tailor’s business, one of many in the village back in the early 1900s, which has now been lovingly converted to a delightful spacious holiday cottage. It is in perfect location for walks or fishing on the Whiteadder and Blackadder rivers at Allanton (just 100 yards from the cottage) and nearby on the Tweed in various locations throughout the borders. There is a separate fully enclosed garden out to the rear which is accessed across the parking area looking out over the field with basic BBQ facilities, table and chairs and a whirligig washing line should you need it. There is a log store here too, and a selection of outdoor games. There is a water hose fitted outside if you want to wash dogs from a muddy walk!
Allanton usually hosts a number of annual events including a summer beer festival and garden party (June). Being just 100 yards up the street it’s not far to stumble home after a tipple or two. Choose from over 40 gins, a great selection of wines and fabulous food. There is a beer garden to the rear and dogs are also welcome. On sunny days you can dine al fresco in the pretty garden overlooking the fields towards the coast.
There is play-park further up the village for young children, and you have access to some of the most beautiful countryside and riverside walks.
The cottage is perfectly located to enjoy an abundance of sights, places to visit, attractions and activities for all tastes including amazing walks, beaches, golf, fishing, shooting, cycle routes and surfing. St Abbs and Coldingham on the coast a few miles away are excellent for surfing, sea-kayaking, and diving. There are a number of historic houses and castles nearby such as Manderston, Thirlestaine, Mellerstain and Floors Castle all a short drive away throughout the Borders. Alnwick Castle & Gardens (of Harry Potter fame!) is a short drive down the A1, as is Bamburgh Castle on the fantastic Northumberland coast. You can take a drive down the coast through a number of pretty coastal villages and towns. Holy Island or Lindisfarne (featured in TV series Vikings and The Last Kingdom) is a real treat to visit with lovely local shops selling gifts, art and ice-cream, Lindisfarne Castle and beautiful historic priory to walk around. Holy Island is cut off twice-daily from the rest of the world by fast-moving tides which cover over the causeway road to and from the island - so be sure to check the crossing times or you’ll be stranded! Please note that Allanton is in a rural area and August is the main harvest month here for farmers rushing to get the crops in dodging the rain, so farm traffic can be going through the village at all hours during this time.

Bridge Cottage is an ideal escape for a small family or a couple who want to get away and enjoy a break in a secluded rural setting on the edge of a village. Completed in 2023 with holiday makers in mind, this gorgeous modern cottage is located just outside the village of Earlston in The Scottish Borders. There are two bedrooms in the property, one double room with a kingsize bed and one fitted as a twin with two single beds. The open living space is perfect for those travelling as family or with friends. Areas to socialize include the dining area, around the wood burning stove or on the spacious deck. There is also an enclosed lawn area for children and dogs to run around in. The kitchen has everything needed to prepare and enjoy meals. A dishwasher makes clearing up that little bit easier. That said, there are a number of places that guests may wish to eat out within Earlston and the surrounding towns and villages while enjoying or ending day trips. One of the nice things about this lovely part of Scotland is that you’re never far from anything to suit any taste or hobby. Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, is also reachable by car (about an hours drive), by bus (the bus stop is 5 minutes walk away) or by train from Tweedbank station (the station is 3 miles away).

In the grounds of the owner’s award winning Whitehouse Country House bed and breakfast, they have a secret garden. Pass by the back of this beautiful house in this stunning location and you’ll find an exceptionally well-equipped lodge which you would never know was there. The two bedroom holiday lodge has it’s own private hot tub and with two double bedrooms the property is well suited to both small families and couples looking to escape.
Inside the lodge provides a comfy open plan living space. One of the bedrooms has an en-suite toilet and the other bedroom can be split from a double bed to two smaller singles for the kids. For the type of property the shower in the shower room is surprisingly spacious with it’s shower seat. One of the nice things about this property is that if the weather takes a turn, the lodge is exceptionally pleasant.
The lodge is on a working farm, there is an abundance of wildlife to be seen from Swans to Roe Deer. The area around St Boswells, Melrose and nearby Jedburgh are surrounded by some of the most stunning rolling countryside in the UK. In terms of things to do, for those who love the outdoors the list is endless. Take some time to expore the towns and villages, the treausres in the shops and the treats in the eateries. Venture a little further to the attractions of Edinburgh or the beaches of Northumberland, both within an hour by car.

You can find some of the worlds most highly regarded salmon pools in addition to some of the most beautiful walks, whatever the season. Guests will enjoy an open plan living space with a living area, dining area and kitchen area where you will find all you need to prepare meals. Take advantage of the seriously good fayre provided by the coffee shop where the cakes are too delicious and out of this world.
The property accepts dogs either in the Bothy itself, in the external doggy bedroom or if your pooch prefers the outdoors then comfy kennels are available. If your pet is somewhat larger and requires a trailer and saddle then Caberston Farm can provide ’Bed and Bale’ for horses and if you need some time away then the farm staff can even look after your four-legged friend to give you a little break. We can also organise horse hire and hacks for you. Grass livery and hay are available from the 20-horse livery business on the farm. The farm stretches across 200 acres and while principally it is a sheep farm it now has a Christmas tree farm, horse livery, sheep dog training academy and forestry.

The area around the farm is famed by mountain bikers as two popular routes are nearby. ’The Golfie’ neighbours the farm while ’Feed the Pony’ actually runs through the farm.
