Chittering Farm sits in the privacy of the owners’ arable farm accessed by a private road and is conveniently situated between Cambridge and Ely. The house was rebuilt from an old barn and affords every comfort for an enjoyable and relaxing stay. Situated on a busy working farm the property is an excellent choice for large family get togethers or friendly reunions that require spacious accommodation. It is the ideal base to explore Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk. There are cycle routes to Cambridge and Ely easily accessed from the farm. Some guests may prefer to relax in the private (unfenced) 1-acre garden with its 4-acre paddocks and enjoy the facilities on-site or nearby.
Aqua park and wakeboarding on-site, a short walk from the property. There is also a tennis net and a large football goal in the garden. A games room with table tennis, pool table and dart board. Ely Leisure village 5½ miles has swimming pools, multi-screen cinema, health club, eateries and a driving range with 9 hole golf course and fishing is available locally. A stay here will also provide the opportunity to enjoy the rural location of the farm, with farm and river walks, bird watching and cycling. Located on the edge of the farm is Stretham Old Engine. Erected in 1831, it is a well-preserved example of a steam engine used to drain the farm in the early 20th century.
The city of Cambridge is 10 miles away, famous for its colleges, museums, tours and botanical gardens, where visitors can also try their hand at punting on the River Cam or enjoy a wealth of shops, cafés and restaurants. The city of Ely with markets and local shopping is 6 miles away in the other direction, steeped in history with its impressive medieval cathedral and long river frontage where you can enjoy a boat trip or riverside walk. If you fancy a trip to the beach the North Norfolk coast is less than 50 miles away, the Royal Sandringham Estate less than 40 miles, and Thetford Forest, famous for its walk and cycle routes only 35 miles away. National Trust properties can be found at nearby Wicken Fen, 5 miles, and Anglesey Abbey and gardens 13 miles. Newmarket is also 13 miles with music nights and race days, and the Imperial War Museum at Duxford 24 miles, so there is plenty of scope if you feel like exploring the area during your stay.

The historic university city of Cambridge is only 9 miles away where you can enjoy a punt along the River Cam, take in the magnificent architecture of the university buildings, visit museums or spend the day shopping in the many department stores, high street shops and individual boutiques. The city of Ely is 15 miles away, famous for its stunning cathedral and the location where Oliver Cromwell resided for 10 years. The Imperial War Museum at Duxford is well worth a day out with its historical accounts of the 1st and 2nd World Wars. Make the most of the beautiful countryside by walking and cycling through it or visit Fen Drayton Lakes which is a haven for birdlife around the lakes and traditional riverside meadows, next to the River Great Ouse. For a change of pace and some refreshing sea air, you can be in Hunstanton in less than an hour. Here you will find a wide sandy beach that seems to go on forever, a small funfair, a Sealife Centre, Norfolk Lavender and lots of seaside shops and cafes. Closer to home lies the bustling city of Ely with its impressive cathedral, nicknamed ‘The ship of the Fens’ because of the way it rises up on the horizon. Here you will find a fascinating stained glass museum, which offers a rare insight to this beautiful art form.

Bustling Newmarket is close by and offers a famous racecourse which often hosts musical entertainment evenings. Named after the previous owner, this much loved semi-detached family home, next door to the local primary school, provides spacious yet cosy accommodation in the heart of the pretty Cambridgeshire village of Offord D’Arcy. Close by lies Godmanchester, a historic and scenic town situated on the River Great Ouse, in the Ouse Valley. There has been a settlement here since Viking times and the town retains much of its Roman history where history buffs can visit Porch Museum, as it is home to many local artefacts and is a treasure trove of information about the history of the town. Also a ‘must visit’ is the university city of Cambridge with its guided walks, numerous museums, including the famous Fitzwilliam, punting on the River Cam, open top bus tours and great shops and restaurants. In fact, to fit it all in, you will need to make several visits, and Cambridge’s network of park and ride systems make this very easy to do. Alternatively you can pop in to Huntingdon and take the train, which also runs to Ely with its magnificent cathedral, or even be in the heart of London in around an hour. Even closer lies Grafham Water, which offers water sports and is a great place for a leisurely stroll, picnic or family day out. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll undoubtedly be pleased to return to Pam’s Plaice and enjoy dinner in the light and airy conservatory, which just seems to bring the outside in, or in the pretty rear garden, while you plan adventures yet to be had.
