Crossing the Derbyshire and Cheshire boundary on the outskirts of the pretty Peak District village of Kettleshulme, this holiday cottage is located next to a field which at times is home to nursery lambs, and offers fine walking direct from the door through the valley of Todd Brook, Bowstones, Taxal Edge and into the Goyt Valley. Kettleshulme itself is home to a 15th century country pub which offers a warm welcome and freshly cooked meals. The town of Whaley Bridge with its mix of shops, bars and restaurants plus train station with direct service to both Manchester and Buxton is a 5 minute drive. The National Trust Lyme Park with its glorious house and gardens can be reached on foot or by car and the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and the popular market town of Bakewell, 45 minute’s drive. A variety of Peak District villages are all easily reachable within half an hour’s drive including Edale, Tideswell and Castleton, and great days out for the family within an hour’s drive include the local Chestnut Centre Wildlife Park, Carsington Water, Matlock Bath with is cable car and the UK’s premier theme park Alton Towers. Nantwich is a charming market town set beside the River Weaver with a rich history and second only to Chester in its wealth of historic buildings. Beyond Nantwich, nearby Audlem (15 minutes away) offers a range of shops that attract many visitors, or you can cross the border into Shropshire and visit Whitchurch and the beautiful countryside that surrounds it. Jodrell Bank is a must, and a little further afield is the county town Shrewsbury, or the big city entertainment of Chester, Manchester and Liverpool which can be reached in around an hour’s drive or by train from Nantwich station.
Those who like to explore the great outdoors can pick up the Sandstone Trail in nearby Tarporley and visit the castles of Beeston and Cholmondeley, or head to Delamere Forest, all of which can be reached in around 30 minutes. Bollington is a thriving town surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Peak District National Park. Known locally as ‘the happy valley’, it’s renowned for lovely independent shops, cafés and an abundance of pubs, together with its most notable landmark ‘White Nancy’. Visible for miles around, White Nancy is a stone folly located on top of Kerridge Hill, which once reached, offers incredible views across Bollington, Macclesfield and Cheshire. There are plenty of local attractions to explore, including the fascinating Macclesfield Silk Museum, Capesthorne Hall and Gardens, and the impressive Jodrell Bank Observatory.
There are also many charming towns and villages nearby, such as the picturesque village of Prestbury and the historic market town of Knutsford. Bollington’s vicinity to the Peak District National Park means the location is perfect for those who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and horse riding. Many trails start just outside the town including the Middlewood Way, a converted railway track that stretches 11 miles from Macclesfield to Marple. Spruce Shepherd’s Hut can be found nestled within the enchanting surroundings of a Christmas tree farm in the Cheshire market town of Wilmslow. The shepherd’s hut is accessed via a rough track and is set on a working farm shared by wildlife including badgers, foxes, hedgehogs and bats, as well as many different sorts of birds so there’s always something going on. There is an on-site tea room open from March to October (Thursday–Sunday) and specialises in Cheshire-based produce, but also has a Caribbean influence. It’s fully licensed so expect bacon rolls and home made cake together with the odd cocktail!
If you can bear to venture out, Wilmslow centre is around a 15-minute walk and is a shoppers’ paradise with designer boutiques and upmarket interior designers, as well as chic charity shops and a department store. Foodies won’t be disappointed with lots of places to eat and drink and there’s even an independent boutique cinema and small theatre. You can take a stroll through the picturesque Carrs Park in the heart of the town centre, or by the River Bollin towards Styal Village and National Trust Quarry Bank Mill.
Lindow Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Lindow Moss, are both adjacent to the farm for walks amongst the peatland and the cities of Manchester, Chester and Liverpool together with the Peak District National Park are all easily accessible. Brackenwood is a distinguished and spacious, six-bedroomed period house with a separate two-bedroom cottage annexe, located on the beautiful Wirral Peninsula. In a prominent elevated position, it borders extensive areas of natural beauty with direct access to the beautiful woodlands of Caldy Hill. Offering far-reaching views, the property is detached and gated with CCTV making it private and secure. Filled with as much history as it has character and charm, it offers flexible and usable accommodation. The main house covers three levels, is beautifully presented, and luxuriously modernised to match the needs of today’s living. Upon entering via the original period front door, the grand entrance hall opens to a spacious sitting room where there’s a Fendi chaise lounge, comfy sofas, Smart TV, parquet flooring and beautiful Persian rugs. Next door is a spacious bedroom with a super kingsize bed and an elegant oak desk. The impressive underfloor heated kitchen/diner is based around a quartz top centre island and is a foodie’s dream. There are three inbuilt fridges (including a bespoke drinks fridge), plus a large larder freezer - perfect for entertaining. The AEG ovens and microwave are at eye level and self-cleaning; there’s a Nespresso coffee machine and an Alexa. The large dining table and soft seating space is flooded with natural light thanks to huge bi-fold doors, and the utility houses a Miele washing machine and tumble dryer. Finally there’s a downstairs toilet.
On the first floor is the master suite with super kingsize bed, sofa seating and TV. It has a vast en-suite with stand-alone bath and power shower. There are three further double bedrooms, of which one is en-suite, and the main family bathroom. The second floor boasts another luxurious bedroom with sky lights and en-suite facilities, and many of the bedrooms can be offered as twin upon request. All beds have pocket sprung luxury mattresses with 200-thread-count cotton linen, and duvets and pillows are ethically sourced goose/duck down.
The luxurious two-bedroom cottage was newly converted in 2023 and sleeps four guests in two double bedrooms. Finished to a high specification throughout, it includes a luxury bathroom with walk-in shower. The showroom kitchen is fully equipped making it completely self-contained; it’s modern, elegant, and comfortable.
The extensive landscaped grounds are equally impressive and offer the ultimate outdoor experience. The spacious sun terrace overlooks the Wirral Peninsula and includes a hot tub, sauna, outdoor ping pong and XL gas BBQ and grill. The gardens have been lovingly maintained and play host to different feature patio areas. There’s a delightful putting green designed by the Head Greenkeeper at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, that meanders down to a secluded fish pond, and the rear gardens enjoy a swing set for children and can be enclosed for both children and pets.
Brackenwood resides in a hugely popular location in the prestigious village of Caldy, a mere mile from the many attractions and services of West Kirby, including a fabulous array of beaches. West Kirby boasts the historic Hilbre Islands, the stunning Marine Lake and numerous boutique shops, restaurants and bars. The Wirral has an excellent range of leisure pursuits within its vicinity including sailing on the Dee Estuary, golf at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club and horse racing at Chester and Aintree. The cities of Liverpool and Chester provide a metropolitan range of shopping, restaurants and nightlife. On the recreational front there’s four Premier League football clubs in the region, rugby, cricket, and tennis clubs, and at Oulton Park there’s a motor racing circuit. Pub within a mile.

Langley is a quiet village close to Macclesfield, with picturesque rows of mill workers’ cottages surrounded by spectacular countryside. Several small reservoirs, attractive woodland and ancient packhorse routes characterise the area, with good walks in Macclesfield Forest, up the peak of Shutlingsloe and across to Tegg’s Nose Country Park. This is also a convenient place to stay to explore the attractions of the northwest - Jodrell Bank Observatory, the vibrant cities of Manchester, Chester and Liverpool. Historic houses such as Gawsworth Hall with its summer open air theatre, Little Moreton Hall and Styal Mill.

A warm welcome at Oakenbank barn awaits you with its open plan living area with a modern kitchen alongside a dining table to seat all guests. A relaxing wood burner can be enjoyed in the living space with comfy seating and a wall mounted television, so you don’t miss out on those favourite programmes. Within the open plan space guests can choose to stay in the double four poster bed whilst the wood burner crackles away. The galleried area in the barn has two single beds for guests and a modern family bathroom can be found downstairs for guests. There are stunning, uninterrupted views down the valley which can be enjoyed whilst seated on the patio furniture in the lovely courtyard of this pretty barn.


When ready to get out and about in the local area, you can choose to walk straight from the front door to start your day with a visit to the Ingersley Vale Waterfall or popular local landmark white Nancy, or maybe just a short drive away for a hike up Macc View for outstanding scenery. History buffs will relish in a trip to the nearby town of Macclesfield where they can discover the rich and captivating history of Armoury Towers and Fence Alms Houses or the Priests House that rests in the quintessential village of Prestbury.
