Located in the former mill building by the River Ure at one of the National Park’s most renowned beauty spots.The property has been restored by its new owners to provide comfortable accommodation for two people. Enjoying a stylish interior, open plan living space with newly fitted shaker style kitchen, the bedroom has a super kingsize bed which can be set as a twin on request, and the bathroom has a walk-in shower. Stunning views of both the Falls and the River Ure can be enjoyed from it’s windows. The apartment is accessed by stone steps and internal stairs to the first floor, so not suitable for anyone with limited mobility. Offering a unique experience, this first floor apartment is a joint venture with its neighbouring Yore Mill Craft Shop and Gallery opened by the owners in July 2021. Large windows look out over the Upper Falls and it is unlikely that there are many finer views out of a gallery window in Yorkshire or beyond. The Gallery showcases the talents of local artists and makers and inspirational courses take place regularly and will be available on request to guests. Nearby, Freeholders’ Wood Local Nature Reserve, an ancient semi-natural woodland, hosts the Planet Trail in October as part of the Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Fringe Festival and again for the dark Skies Festival in February through to March. Heading out and about to explore, Starfall is perfectly situated to visit the superb waterfalls with other many walks in the area taking in the surrounding woods or heading up to the picturesque villages of Carperby or Aysgarth. There are two pubs nearby, both serving excellent food and local beers. The wonderfully stocked delicatessen in nearby Leyburn and the creamery at Wensleydale are a food lover’s dream, as are many of the pubs in and around Wensleydale all serving wonderful local produce. The location means the property is central to all of the attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the market town of Bedale, Hawes and the famous Hardraw Force, and the Wensleydale community run steam train. - Leyburn, EnglandPreston Mill Barn is a unique barn conversion located close to the old Wensley Station near Leyburn. Nestled in beautiful countryside with stunning views across Wensleydale towards Penhill, it is a perfect retreat for two people. A short stroll away is the village of Wensley, built by Lord Bolton to serve the estate, which also includes nearby Castle Bolton and Bolton Hall. Wensley has an excellent pub, a beautiful church, and should it be needed, a good bus link to the market town of Leyburn, less than 2 miles away.
The barn was converted in 2011 and provides compact single level accommodation. The living area is open plan, with a wood burner, lovely slate floors, wooden beams and French doors opening out onto the terrace taking in the stunning views. Just off the living area is a kitchen with dining table. The south facing bedroom has a comfortable double bed with access from one side only. A shower room with toilet is adjacent and completes the accommodation. Step outside into the gorgeous south facing garden with patios and take in the amazing views across the valley to Penhill. Surrounded by stunning countryside, this is the most precious spot to sit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.
There is so much to enjoy in nearby Leyburn with quaint local shops, cafés, traditional pubs and a weekly farmers’ market. Castle Bolton where Mary Queen of Scots was held in the 16th century is a stone’s throw away or enjoy a stroll through the Bolton Estate to Wensley that gave its name to the entire Dale.
Nearby are the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn with their many shops, pubs, restaurants and craft workshops where craftsmen display their skills and sell hand made products. Historical castles and ruins are numerous with Bolton Castle almost on the doorstep and Middleham Castle a few miles away. From Middleham square you can sit and watch the impressive sight as the racehorses pass through on their way to the gallops.
