Children can explore the workings of a real farm, they can sit on a tractor and feed the lambs (accompanied by the owner). In John Peel country, Caldbeck is a pretty and peaceful village which has, in addition to cafés, craft and antique shops, a goldsmith, clogmaker and bowling green. Situated on the edge of the National Park, it is known locally as ’Back o’ Skiddaw’, a walk over which will bring you into the bustling market town of Keswick. Keswick with its lakes, Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water are a 15-minute drive and full of interesting things to see and do. Enjoy a ride up Derwent Water on the Keswick Launch, use the many walking and cycle paths to explore the breathtaking scenery, experience the theatre by the lake and the numerous museums suitable for all the family. The traditional market town of Cockermouth, Wordsworth’s birthplace, is 14 miles and the historic city of Carlisle and the Scottish border is 16 miles. You’re close to Grizedale Forest with lots of woodland walks, cycle routes and even a high rope adventure course, great fun for adults! For golfers, you can access Windermere Golf Course in a short drive as well as Esthwaite Trout Fishery which is just 1 mile away. If you love the outdoors, there’s plenty of hiking and climbing routes all around including both on and off road cycle ways, whatever you want to do on holiday, Garth Court is a great place to start.
