Perfectly located right in the heart of the popular village of Middleham in beautiful Wensleydale, Barbican Cottage is the perfect location for guests wanting to really explore the local area and be a part of this historic racehorse training village. Lovingly renovated, Barbican Cottage offers guests beautiful accommodation, contemporary fixtures and fittings, quality facilities and still maintains the charm and character of the building. On the ground floor guests will find an open plan living, dining and kitchen area. The area is spacious and light yet still remains comfortable and cosy with a beautiful tiled floor and exposed original beams. The kitchen is very practical, well-equipped with all the appliances a budding chef needs to whip up a holiday feast. On the first floor there are two good sized bedrooms with the master bedroom offering a king size bed, electric wood burner and views across to Middleham Castle which is just behind the cottage. The second bedroom has a single bed and pull out bed giving plenty of choice for guests wanting to travel as a family, couple or small group of friends. The family bathroom is very well presented with a large walk-in shower cubicle and heated towel rail. The garden to the rear is just delightful and is south facing so guests will really be able to make the most of the outdoor seating area and patio. Beautifully maintained and extremely well kept, the secluded, walled garden at Barbican Cottage is a rare find in such a small village, and is a real asset to the cottage. There is ample parking on the cobbles to the front of the cottage.
Perfect for horse lovers, Middleham is renowned for its long history and also serves as a thriving racehorse community. Guests will be able to watch as top class racehorses are ridden daily through the village and up to the gallops in the fields at the edge of the village. Ideal for a luxurious romantic break, there are many pubs, restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance and all are well known for serving good quality, local food and produce. Middleham Castle lies just behind Barbican Cottage and was once the home of Richard III and was referred to in former times as the “Windsor of the North”. Middleham is a great place for families too with plenty of attractions to visit and explore within a short driving distance. Local attractions include the popular Chocolate Factory, Tennants Auction House and tea pottery which are all located in Leyburn just two and a half miles away as well as The Forbidden Corner which is a hidden folly offering twists, turns and excitement around every corner, and is situated just four miles away from Barbican Cottage. Another popular attraction is the Wensleydale Railway which stops in Leyburn and travels through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Yorkshire Dales. Guests who enjoy walking, cycling or even just exploring will find an abundance of established public footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways that lead right from the village itself onwards towards and through the Dales and beyond. A visit to the Dales Countryside Museum is also a must. The scenery here is magnificent at any time of year and guests will find themselves on a journey through heather covered grouse moorland, open countryside, natural woodland and pretty, little Yorkshire villages. A little further afield, but still within easy driving distance, guests will be able to visit Castle Bolton, Jervaulx Abbey and Wensleydale Creamery as well as Aysgarth Falls, Hawes, Gayle Mill, York, Harrogate and Ripon.

Nestled away and surrounded by fields and farmland, just outside the popular Yorkshire village of Middleham, Curlew Barn is the perfect destination for guests wanting to enjoy a quiet, romantic break. Jervaulx Abbey was once a great Cistercian monastery and is certainly worth a visit to explore the history and also to enjoy a spot of lunch in the popular tea rooms. A little further afield but still within walking distance, guests will find footpaths leading up hills and down dales, through natural, unspoilt woodland and open countryside, to many attractive Yorkshire towns and villages situated just a few miles away. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty really does offer some of the most magnificent scenery and stunning views, and should be visited at all times of the year just to appreciate the sheer beauty of the landscape. Guests will find an abundance of top quality local inns and restaurants offering fresh, local produce and comfortable surroundings. The Forbidden Corner is only a few miles away and really must be explored by guests of all ages. This once private folly is now open as an attraction to the public and offers guests a fun filled day out with twists and turns round every corner. A little further afield but still within an hour’s drive, guests will be able to visit popular destinations including Ripon, Aysgarth Falls, York, Thirsk, Northallerton, Hawes, Barnard Castle, Richmond and Durham. The popular market town of Skipton is 3 miles away and offers a host of things to do for all ages. The Tour de France and the Tour de Yorkshire have both passed through Skipton and the surrounding countryside in recent years. Why not bring your bike and explore some of the routes for yourself? Cherry Garth Cottages are located in the centre of Thornton le Dale, ’Yorkshire’s little gem’. Cherry Blossom has been named after the cherry trees which border the garden. The cottage has been built from beautiful traditional Yorkshire stone, and is tucked away in the grounds of the owner’s home Cherry Garth. It has an open plan living area with a welcoming wood burner to snuggle up in front of after a busy day out exploring the spectacular Yorkshire coast and countryside, and upon arrival you will be welcomed with a lovely welcome pack with tea, coffee and biscuits. There are lovely views from the property onto the garden and the bedroom window overlooks the paddock, where sheep graze.

The picturesque village of Thornton le Dale is located on the edge of the North York Moors, a mere one mile from Pickering. From here you can take a ride on the famous steam train to Grosmont, Goathland (aka Aidensfield in the classic TV series Heartbeat) and the seaside town of Whitby where you can climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey. Those looking for a quieter pace of life may prefer to walk the many footpaths and bridleways over the North York Moors.

Ironstone Cottage is in a peaceful village served by a little local shop, with the rolling heather clad moors just at the end of the road. These stone terraced cottages were built for the miners back in 1860. You can visit the nearby mining museum to find out more about the history, as this area was at the heart of the steel industry back in the 1800s. The name Ironstone Cottage was chosen to honour the history of the area, the owner’s father was employed to care for the pit ponies from the age of 11. Now the biggest draw to the area is tourism as guests explore the national park and the nearby beaches. There are a host of wonderful walks and cycle trails to explore, this is the perfect base for those who enjoy nature.
Just a short drive away you have Saltburn, Staithes and Runswick Bay leading down to the incredibly popular coastal town of Whitby, all ideal for a day of discovery. On the moors there are some stunning beauty spots such as Roseberry Topping as well as quaint rural villages with some great pubs, perfect as a reward after a day of walking.

At the back of the property you have an enclosed garden with a lawn and sitting out area, which is great for unwinding on a sunny evening, enjoying a bottle of wine. Inside the cottage is carefully furnished to create a comfortable and welcoming holiday home. The well equipped kitchen/dining area, is where you can reminisce over the day’s events over a delicious home cooked meal. The living room is separate and cosy, with sofas nestled around the TV. There is one unexpected surprise on the ground floor, an incredible whirlpool bath, which has bubbles, massage jets and lights. Upstairs you have a choice of three bedrooms, a double, a twin and a master king bedroom with an en-suite shower room. This property is the perfect choice for families, friends or two couples looking to create memories together. The North Yorkshire Moors is a fabulous and varied destination to explore, you can take a ride on the steam train which runs from the coast to visit many pretty rural villages, including Goathland which was the set for the popular TV show Heartbeat, as well as the Hogsmeade station in Harry Potter. Forge Villa is a beautiful property situated in the village of Ebberston, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park. This area is very popular with cyclists as Dalby Forest can be accessed by the lane that runs to the north of the property. Dalby Forest in the past has hosted the World Cup mountain bike event, so there’s plenty of challenging runs for you to try. For those of you who enjoy a more leisurely trail, there’s miles of woodland paths for both bikers and walkers. The forest attracts international and UK visitors throughout the year, not just for the cycling, but for the many events that are held here, from concerts to educational nature visits for children.

The owner takes great pride in providing a beautiful holiday home, and Forge Villa has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard. The gardens are beautifully kept, with areas for nature to thrive, plus a colourful, wild flower meadow. Chafer Wood backs onto the grounds so you have lots of woodland walks for the dog. Access to the driveway is via a electric gate for added security, however please note parking is at own risk and the owners take no responsibility for loss or damage. There is a pub opposite so perfect for a drink after a busy day exploring the area.

The village of Ebberston is a short drive from the east coast, with Scarborough, Filey and Whitby close by. The popular market towns that Yorkshire is famous for, such as Malton, Pickering and Helmsley, are all within a short driving distance. Pickering is the nearest town, just 10 minutes away, and is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Here you can take a wonderful ride on a steam train and travel across the Moors to Whitby. Stop off at Goathland, the fictional village of Aidensfield in the ever popular TV programme ’Heartbeat’. Pickering is also host to the very popular ’1940’s Wartime Weekend’, an event held every year that takes over the whole town and attracts visitors as far away as the USA.
