Alnwick has enchanting water gardens and a famous castle as well as many pubs, eateries, fine shops and cobbled streets. Nearby Seahouses, famous for its lovely fish and chips, is a bustling harbour town unchanged for years. Take a boat trip from here to the Farne Islands to see the migrating birds or seals. No trip to Northumberland is complete without heading over to Holy Island, reached by a causeway at low tide. Practically on the doorstep of your cottage you have the coast with its long, silver beaches complemented by striking castles. Craster is a picturesque fishing village with the most delicious kippers and the walk to Dunstanburgh Castle is a short drive away, as are Alnmouth and Alnwick, with Europe’s largest water garden and the magnificent 11th-century castle. Seahouses, a bustling harbour seaside resort, is only 10 minutes and a great place to start with fishing trips and ferries to the Farne Islands to see the bird and seal colonies, organised by a number of companies. The coastline is peppered with small fishing villages, and inland you have the hills and forests. Both sea and river fishing are in abundance in Northumerland. You can also fish at Alnmouth beach without a licence or head up along the River Aln for salmon fishing. There are numerous lake fisheries too - the primary ones being at Caiston, Fontburn and Felton Frence, all providing tuition and equipment hire. Just 1 mile up the coastline is the traditional fishing port of Seahouses, where boat trips, depart regularly from its harbour to the nearby Farne Islands, famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony. Here there are also several charming tea rooms, quaint pubs, and shops. Horse riding, fishing, and golf on the links close, by being only a sample of the many amenities available in this popular location.
    A further 2 miles up the coastline is the picture-perfect village of Bamburgh, famous for its majestic fortress and Grace Darling Museum.
