Boat trips to the Farne Islands leave from Seahouses to see the puffins and seals, or you can take a trip to Holy Island when the tide is out by driving over the causeway. Beach and golf course 2 minutes’ walk. There is on road parking, and you can sometimes manage to park opposite the cottage where there is space for three cars. Take a trip across the causeway (at low tide) to Holy Island, a few miles further up the rugged and unspoilt coastline.

The owners provide a welcome tea tray and have added maps which shows which fields and walks you can have access too. In spring the owners are happy to show you the lambs and answer any of your questions.
The wonderful National Trust Property of Wallington Hall and Gardens is only 5 miles away. Matfen Hall, Spa and Golf Centre is only 10 miles, and you can drive down to Corbridge in 20 minutes. This is a lovely old Roman town with plenty of lovely pubs and cafés. The pick-your-own fruit farm and café is only half an hour for you to enjoy in summer. You really can travel all over the county from Newonstead Bothy, then come home and relax in this lovely location.

Wooler itself is just under 4 miles away and features a good range of shops, pubs, restaurants and facilities. . Heading 4 miles east is the picture-perfect coastal village of Alnmouth where there is a gorgeous golden sandy beach. A short drive west brings you to the small town of Rothbury, found nestled at the foot of the Simonside Hills and where the River Coquet ebbs and flows. It’s something that the vast majority of us will never see, but within the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park you can view it in all its glory. Other astronomical phenomena you can look out for during your stay include the Aurora Borealis (more commonly known as the Northern Lights), and the occasional spectacular meteor shower. These shooting stars are grains of dust from the tails of comets burning up when they enter the Earth’s atmosphere. To continue your stargazing odyssey there is the Kielder Observatory. This hugely popular attraction is located on the top of Black Fell, just up the road near Kielder Village, and is run by the Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society.
