The quayside in Amble has a Sunday weekly market and is home to the Harbour Village where small independent shopping pods sell a range of arts, crafts, accessories, food, and drink. Head to the RPSB reserve of Coquet Island to discover puffins, terns and eider ducks, and take a boat ride around the island to see it from a unique perspective, while wildlife lovers will also relish the chance to explore the Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre and birdwatching opportunities are prominent at Druridge Bay. 6 miles North brings you to the quaint town of Alnmouth, a popular coastal village known for its excellent 18-hole golf course and its charming cycle routes. Kelly’s Lodge is just perfect for that well deserved break, relax on the raised deck with the bubbling hot tub all ready and waiting for you to relax and unwind on this country park. With some lovely modern touches throughout Kelly’s Lodge is a great space for up to 6 people, located overlooking the gentle stream on this peaceful park with an onsite bar/café/restaurant. The Lodge is a great space to spend time together with friends or family, located just off the main A1 with fantastic access in all directions for exploring the abundance of visitor attractions throughout Northumberland. Morpeth is only a few miles, a pretty historic market town with riverboats, plenty of bars, cafes and a lovely Edwardian Shopping Arcade. The heritage coast is easily reached from here with miles of golden sandy beaches to explore, peppered with castles and historic sites. Head further south and you can travel to Tynemouth and Whitley Bay two lovely areas with a promenade stretching all the way along with lots of places to eat and stop for ice creams. Perhaps travel west and go over to Hadrian’s Wall countryside and see some of the Roman Wall. Nearby Felton has a wonderful award winning pub and café popular with the locals. The Heritage coastline area, and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretches along the beautiful coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed with miles of beaches and historic castles, make sure you visit Holy Island home to the Lindisfarne Gospels but make sure you check the tide tables to access the causeway. For Harry Potter fans, a visit to Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland, is 10 miles and is a popular tourist destination in the historic town of Alnwick with its cobbled streets. Alnmouth railway station is only a few miles, and from here you can catch the East Coast train up to Edinburgh or down to Newcastle or York for day trips to remember. Amble is centrally located for exploring in all directions, so a trip over to Hadrian’s Wall, Kielder National Park or up the Heritage coast are all easily accessible from here. Harbour Lodge is idyllically situated only 100 yards from the harbour of Amble,’known locally as ’the friendliest port’. Nestled at the end of a stone built terrace, Harbour Lodge and its neighbouring property were added in recent years. Little Shore beach has pretty beach huts for hire, a treat whilst on your holiday. A walk along the pier is pleasant with some gorgeous sunsets to finish off your day. Amble has bespoke shops, plenty of cafés, fish and chip shops and a highly acclaimed Italian Style Ice Cream Parlour all within easy walking distance. A stroll along the estuary brings you to Warkworth about 2 miles, a picture postcard village with the castle sat at the top of the hill, stop off in one of the friendly pubs or cafés.
Further along the coast you come to Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh all steeped in history and lovely for a few hours exploring. A little further north you can cross the causeway and visit Holy Island (check the crossing time) for a truly step back in time experience. The railway station at Alnmouth is only a few minutes’ drive where you can board a train to Edinburgh or Newcastle and spend a great day exploring these historic cities steeped in history. Alnwick is only 15 minutes away with its majestic castle used in some harry Potter and Downton Abbey scenes a great experience for both adults and children where you can look around the small town exploring the cobbled streets and shops.
The beaches up the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty remain unspoilt and underpopulated so there is always a place to find some seclusion should you wish, Cresswell and Druridge Bay beaches remain isolated most of the time and are only a short drive. Whilst in Northumberland why not take a trip over to Hadrian’s Wall for a completely different day trip away from the coast and discover more about the Romans and the famous Roman Wall. Poppies Place is a fabulous Scandinavian style log cabin set in a peaceful corner of Felmoor Country Park in Northumberland.
This two-bedroom cabin is built to a high specification, with a lovely terrace to the front to sit, relax and watch the world go by. Inside you have an open plan living area with lovely furnishings, enjoying the views out to the park, two comfortable bedrooms, a king size and a twin, a family bathroom with shower and fully fitted modern kitchen. There is also a hairdryer and an iron available for guests use. The small on-site café and residents’ bar is a nice area to take breakfast, chat to other holidaymakers and is only a short walk from your lodge. There is also Wi-Fi available in the club house. There is a small grocery store on the neighbouring Bockenfield Park. There is a lovely lake nearby where you can watch the ducks and swans, and the children’s playpark and zip wire are sure to be a big hit with the family! If you fancy a meal out, then there are plenty of restaurants within a few miles. It’s ideal if you are looking for a great base to explore Northumberland, yet still have lovely surroundings and somewhere to relax after your busy days out. There is plenty to do and see in the area and there is wildlife surrounding the cabin, so it’s a real country retreat.
Nearby is the Northumberland County Zoo at Eshott which is lovely for the children to visit for a few hours. It’s a 2-minute drive from your lodge or a few minutes’ walk. The historic market towns of Morpeth, with its pretty riverside, and Alnwick, with its famous castle used in Harry Potter, are both nearby and have plenty of shops, cafés and pubs. The small village of Felton is only 2 miles away and has a friendly pub with good food, a village shop which incorporates a Post Office with cash back facilities and a highly acclaimed tearoom with a artisan bakery. Golf is available at Burgham Park, only a 2-minute drive, should you fancy a round whilst visiting.
