This attractive barn is attached to the owner’s home with its own garden and patio area with wonderful views towards the village and the surrounding countryside. It has a stair lift and a disability aid to help less mobile guests to access the bath. The holiday property enjoys a peaceful location in the small, picturesque village of Fonthill Bishop, where a tranquil river flows to a beautiful lake on the historically fascinating Fonthill Estate. For rambling, horse riding and cycling there is a good network of bridle and footpaths in the area. A truly rural spot, yet just one mile from the A303 and easy access to the many sights and attractions within the area including Stonehenge with its mystical stone circle, Avebury stone circle and Salisbury with its cathedral. The shopping town of Shaftesbury is within 20 minutes, where visitors flock to see the famous cobbled ‘Gold Hill’. The small towns of Tisbury and Hindon have local amenities and good pubs, both within 2 miles. The seaside resort of Bournemouth is just 40 miles, and the New Forest within an easy drive. It is also a convenient base for visiting Bath, Bristol, Stourhead, Longleat House and Safari Park, Wilton House and grounds, and the south coast. Golf courses nearby. Beach 40 miles. These lovely, semi-detached barn conversions are situated just outside of the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury, and close to the iconic prehistoric stone circle of Stonehenge, which stands on the grassland of Salisbury Plain. This is a great base for families or groups wanting to explore this part of the country, as there is so much to see and do. It is only 30 minutes to the coast with the lovely sandy beaches of Bournemouth, or there are plenty of sites and National Trust areas with beautiful walks and lovely bike rides in the New Forest, you will be spoilt for choice.
The Old Stables are situated within their own grounds and form part of a collection of four newly, and stylishly converted barns. The walks that surround them are widely renowned to be some of the best in the area and include Bentley walks with its famous Bluebell display, Hound Wood, and Blackmoor Copse with its many deer that roam and nature ponds.
The Old Stables 1 (ref UK32045) is mainly on one level, with just one bedroom on the first floor with a vaulted ceiling and traditional oak A-frame beams, all other rooms are on the ground level, with open plan living, dining and kitchen. With York stone flooring throughout and terracotta tile in the kitchen area to create a comfortable rustic feel. There is a vaulted ceiling and beautiful oak beams.
The Old Stables 2 (ref UK35616) is set over two floors consisting of an open plan living, dining, and kitchen areas on the ground floor and two bedrooms and a shower room on the first floor.
The Old Stables 3 (ref UK35690) offers wonderful open plan living/kitchen/dining room along with two stunning bedrooms and a splendid bathroom. The barns are nestled in the Wiltshire countryside, yet only 5 minutes’ drive from the charming Saxon town of Cricklade and just 90 minutes from London. The picturesque High Street nurtures a wide selection of amenities, including a supermarket, award-winning butcher, traditional grocer, a micro-brewery, several quality pubs, and a variety of restaurants. Tourist highlights are the National Nature Reserve at North Meadow, home to the rare ’Snakeshead Fritillary’ flowers in the Spring and singing skylarks and the splendid 12th-century church, plus the Swindon & Cricklade Steam Railway.
For those wishing to be more active, there are plenty of opportunities locally including golf, horse riding, a gym and indoor swimming pool. The surrounding countryside makes this an ideal location for walking, running, or cycling. The idyllic setting of Hornbeam Grange provides a haven for wildlife; local roe deer groups make frequent visits to the adjacent fields, and birds of prey are regular visitors to the skies of the immediate area.
The nearby Cotswold Water Park has outstanding sporting facilities for all ages including water skiing, cable wakeboarding, sailing, clay pigeon shooting, wildlife walks and angling. Cricklade also has a leisure centre with a gym and swimming pool. Cirencester, the ’capital of the Cotswolds’, is within a 15-minute drive and offers a comprehensive range of shops and services including a supermarket, a wealth of varied independent shops, well regarded restaurants and unique cafés. There is much Roman history to explore, including an amphitheatre.
Polo at Cirencester Park and eventing at both Gatcombe and Badminton are excellent chances to sample the infamous British Summer Social Season.
