Just a 5-minute drive down the road and you are in Newby Bridge, popular for its fantastic riverside pubs and home to the Lakes Aquarium and Windermere Lake Cruises. Take a wonderful cruse across the largest lake in the UK over to the popular town of Ambleside. If walking is more of what you are looking for then you are spoilt for choice, with 214 Wainwright fells within easy reach you have plenty of options to choose from. There are also an abundance of cycling routes close by or if you want to go further afield, there are many other popular Lake District towns to explore such as Grasmere and Ulverston. Why not head over to Grange-over-Sands or Cartmel, famous for its sticky toffee pudding, Michelin star restaurant and horse racing. Orrest Howe is situated up the famous Orrest Head walk in Windermere, set in a beautiful woodland garden. You can enjoy sitting out on one of the many seating areas or end your day relaxing in the hot tub whilst taking in the local scenery.

Ramshead Cottage is detached and has a wealth of original features, it’s characterful and welcoming with a cosy country style, and on the doorstep of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. The views of the surrounding fields and fells are divine for those beautiful summer mornings, fast forward to winter and you can cosy up in front of the wood burner. The main bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom is a twin bedroom allowing the option to have double or separate beds. Comfortable seating around the television and wood burner on the ground floor will help you unwind after a long day walking or cycling. There is a large kitchen offering all the amenities you would expect to be able to cook for you and your guests. Wines are available in the property which guests can buy, and the owner will donate £1 per bottle purchased to the Air Ambulance and Cumbrian Mountain Rescue. There is even an outdoor shed ideal for bicycles, canoes or even motorbikes. The local pub is ideal for a hearty Sunday roast after your afternoon ramble and Ramshead Cottage is within easy reach of Kendal, Penrith, Lancaster or Carlisle, making this quaint village a great commuter’s location. As you arrive at the Beckside House, there is ample private parking directly outside the property making for a smooth transition of bags in the house. The entrance hall is light and airy and has hanging for coats and a rack for shoes. To the left is a good-sized twin bedroom with plenty of storage. The two single beds are zip and link so can be configured as a second double if preferred (please specify at the time of booking). Situated next to the second bedroom is the open living space, finished to a good standard with a modern feel. The living area benefits from a 50” TV and gives views to the enclosed patio and garden area, with French doors so you can open the whole space up on warm summer days. There is a round, glass table for dining and the well-appointed kitchen means the cook can still be part of the conversation as dinner is prepared. The kitchen has a large fridge/freezer, electric hob and oven, microwave and a dishwasher. These is also a washing machine for the outdoor enthusiast who may get caught out by the weather. The property houses a large bath to soak away the day’s aches and pains, and a large drench shower. The property is ideally located with the centre of Dalton-in-Furness only a 2-minute walk from the front door. Dalton offers a good range of shops and take-aways, as well as a selection of lovely pubs which offer food as well as a good selection of beers. Within 3 miles are a number of attractions, such as the Safari Zoo, Furness Abbey and a local leisure centre with a great pool for kids. If you want to travel a bit further afield then within a 20-mile radius there is the World-famous Lake Windermere, Lakeland Motor Museum, Go-Ape High ropes adventure, Miniature Village, Bigland Hall equestrian (Horse riding) and Lakes Aquarium to name but a few, so there is something for every family member, and of course, you are at the gateway to the whole of the Lake District National Park.

Set in the delightful village of Newby, Garden Cottage is a well-presented detached cottage situated in the unspoilt Eden Valley. This area is one of Cumbria’s best-kept secrets, with picture postcard villages and beautiful rolling countryside. It is ideal for walking and cycling and offers fishing on the River Eden. Nearby attractions include Brougham Castle, Acorn Bank Garden and Watermill, Rheged discovery centre and Wetheriggs Pottery. Garden Cottage is easily accessible from the M6 and just a stone’s throw from the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Scottish Borders. Grange Court is located in the quiet village of Cliburn in the beautiful Eden Valley, renowned not only for its scenery, wonderful walking, pretty sandstone villages and quiet country lanes which are ideal for cycling, but it is also perfectly placed between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.
The village of Cliburn is typical of the many traditional Cumbrian villages that dot the Eden Valley. The surrounding farmland offers a pretty rural landscape away from the hustle and bustle of busier, more westerly Cumbria. Local villages offer hospitable inns, fabulous local bakeries, tea rooms and independent shops and craft outlets. This is an area enjoyed by walkers and cyclists, with the coast-to-coast path close by with routes for all abilities literally from the door.
A short run out offers the Northern Lake District with Lake Ullswater and the market towns of Keswick and Penrith well worth a visit. The North Pennines offers unspoilt landscapes and one of the country’s highest market towns. The views from the summit on the drive up are well worth the climb. The flying club at Kirkland and the fishing lakes at Blencarn are close by. The Cumbrian towns of Appleby and Kirkby Stephen are again within easy reach and offer a good mix for all including historic buildings, good selection of cafés, pubs and restaurants, and plenty of independent retailers.

Converted from part of the old Horseshoe Inn, this lovely cottage with modern furnishings makes a delightful base for a relaxing holiday. It boasts a prime location in the desirable village of High Lorton approximately 7 miles from Keswick and just 4½ miles from Cockermouth. Lorton Vale is a beautiful undeveloped part of The Lake District with quiet lanes and scattered farms and hamlets, yet you’re in a prime location for fell walking, climbing, stunning scenery and easy access to nearby tourist hotspots and popular towns such as Keswick and Cockermouth. It begins in an area of rich pastures and leads into the heart of the fells with many famous peaks like Haystacks (Wainwright’s favourite) and the property is located within 6 miles of 5 lakes including Crummock and Buttermere.
Tennis is available in the village, along with a small shop, a church and at Low Lorton, a pub serving a range of local ales, great pub food and a relaxing atmosphere. You can reach the town of Cockermouth in just 12 minutes by car with an abundance of bars, shops, restaurants and independent retailers. You’ll also find antique and craft shops and plenty of small coffee shops and cafés. The tourist magnet of Keswick is only a 7-mile drive over the Whinlatter pass. Keswick’s vibrant centre is popular with outdoor lovers due to its climbing wall and local swimming pool. You can pick up all your walking gear from many specialist retailers.
You also have Derwent Pencil Museum, home to the world’s largest pencil, and Puzzling Place, great for the kids, with mind boggling illusions and attractions. The Theatre by The Lake on the shores of Derwentwater is worth a visit for an evening performance. Whinlatter Forest Centre, is perfect for all ages with cycling trails through the forest, Go-Ape climbing adventure and a children’s play area. There are several walks from the village but take a short drive or bus journey and you can access many of the magnificent fells in this stunning part of the English Lake District.
