Set in 18 acres of beautiful natural grounds and woodland, this charming wooden holiday lodge has its own private outdoor space along with shared use of an indoor heated plunge pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and table tennis table. Extended and refurbished in 2021, there is a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, a new kitchen, and a large veranda with seating and an external heater.
Right on the doorstep of the magnificent Langdales, 2½ miles from Ambleside and 8 miles from Coniston. It is a perfect base for touring and exploring the footpaths in the area with numerous woodland and hill walks straight from the door. Great for wildlife lovers, with deer and other animals freely wandering through this small, select woodland retreat. The Lake District Visitor Centre near Windermere is worth a visit (activities include high ropes, horse riding etc), as is the nearby water sports centre on Windermere. Pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Little Esthwaite Cottage rests on the shores of the majestic Esthwaite Water, in the village of Near Sawrey, which boasts a superb local public house and the National Trust property of Hill Top, the home of Beatrix Potter. The cottage sits in the original grounds of the house where Beatrix Potter spent her childhood summers and where Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny came into being.
The interior is very well laid out with a well-equipped kitchen/dining room. Two steps up to the separate living room with a wood burner for those cosy evenings. From the living room, doors open onto a private enclosed patio providing views across the fields to Esthwaite Water. There is also a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Outside is a landscaped garden with lawns and mature borders, shared with the adjoining property, where you can admire the breathtaking views towards the Langdale Pikes, Old Man of Coniston, Wetherlam and Crinkle Crags. There are walks directly from the property and it is just a short walk across the meadow to the shores of Esthwaite Water, where you can wander along the water’s edge, with trout and pike fishing available. Esthwaite Water is thought to have been Beatrix Potter’s favourite lake and inspired her creation of the character Jeremy Fisher. For bird watchers, an osprey pair have also been spotted fishing regularly at the lake in recent summers.
The cottage is well situated for Tarn Hows and the pretty village of Hawkshead, alternatively you could take the ferry across to Bowness-on-Windermere, where steamers on Lake Windermere run up to Ambleside or down to the steam railway at Lakeside.
Coniston Water, once host to the infamous speed record attempt of Donald Campbell in his craft ‘Bluebird’, is just a short drive. Beach 12 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant within ¼ mile.

You will not be short of space when you stay at Greenbank House. This large, welcoming property with attached annexe is set in the hamlet of Skelwith Bridge, and only yards from the picturesque River Brathay, with some lovely walks right on your doorstep. With views over Wansfell and Loughrigg Fell, and large gardens to explore the flora and fauna, you will soon be in your own peace and tranquillity and away from it all. Let your children play hide and seek whilst you sit back and enjoy a good book, or a sip from a cup of tea whilst you thumb through a local guide for the next place to visit.
The main accommodation is set over two floors and has the benefit of its own private, attached, self contained annexe. Sit and enjoy the stunning views from the first floor living room, which also has a wood burner and plenty of comfy sofas to relax on and recall the day’s adventures. Entertain in the conservatory/dining room and absorb the surrounding private landscaped gardens and views. The TV has HDMI connection, so feel free to bring your laptop if you wish to connect to other sources. The large sun terrace is perfect to sit out on and make the most of the outlook, and with a large fully equipped kitchen, you have all the amenities to inspire any meal.
The village of Skelwith Bridge is home to the famous ’Chester’s By The River’ restaurant, which serves homemade cakes and lazy lunches, or enjoy a drink at the local bar. Nearby Skelwith Force waterfall is well worth a walk up to. A short drive and you are in Lakeland’s finest towns of Coniston, Ambleside and Windermere, or for the more adventurous, why not try some of the most acclaimed walks in the Langdale Valley? Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

Ambleside provides a wonderful opportunity to escape and experience Lake District life at the northern end of Lake Windermere. The popular village has a great range of independent shops, galleries, pubs and eateries for every taste. Take a trip to Windermere or Bowness and enjoy a leisurely cruise on the lake surrounded by the spectacular backdrop. Tranquil Rydal Water, Grasmere, Derwentwater and Keswick are all close by. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Enter the property through the sunroom/porch into the hall. Off the hall is the open plan living/kitchen and dining areas, offering the perfect space for social interaction after a day out in the beautiful Lake District. There is plenty of comfortable seating in the living area for putting those weary feet up and enjoying a spot of TV with a warm brew. The kitchen offers enough space and amenities to prepare anything from a pack lunch to a full Sunday dinner. Diners can sit at the table enjoying a glass of wine or beer whilst watching the chef employ their skills.

If you want to explore Lake Windermere and access some of its waterside towns and villages, Waterhead Pier, which dates back to 1845, is the gateway to ferries which can be taken to Bowness, Lakeside pier near Newby Bridge, Wray Castle and Brockhole Visitor Centre, or if you’d rather navigate the waters yourself motor and rowing boats are available to hire. For the outdoor sports enthusiast there are activities ranging from abseiling and climbing to bushcraft and sailing. If you prefer less energetic pursuits, then just a short walk from Ambleside is the National Trust owned Stagshaw Gardens or the impressive Stock Ghyll Force, a spectacular 70-foot waterfall which may be viewed safely from a railed viewpoint. Of course, you are at the heart of the Lake District so there are a huge variety of other attractions within easy access, including Motor Museum, Beatrix Potter attraction, segways, aquarium, animal parks and the list goes on, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Methera Cottage is set in a courtyard shared with other properties that have been converted from a larger building. As soon as you enter the cottage, you are welcomed into an open plan living space, which is the perfect social space to recall the day’s events as you enjoy your favourite tipple whilst someone prepares the evening meal. The natural flow from the dining area leads to contemporary sofa where you can you rest after a busy day of fell walking. Upstairs is a family bathroom for a quick freshen up or a long soak in the bath. The accommodation is topped off with two lovely double bedrooms, one of which features zip and link beds, giving the flexibility of a double or twin beds.
Across the road is a small metal gate that leads down some steps to a shared garden which overlooks River Brathay; this river flows into Lake Windermere and there is direct access to the water via a metal ladder. This is the ideal spot to enjoy a warm summer’s day.
The location of the cottage is perfect for walkers, with trails accessible from behind the cottage. Ambleside is one of the most popular destinations in the Lakes and draws people to its wonderful selection of independent shops, pubs and restaurants, with something for every palate. Local attractions include The Armitt Library and museum, Ambleside Roman Fort, the climbing centre and two cinemas. There is also access to the Windermere Lake cruises which opens up other lakeside destinations like Bowness or Lakeside, where you can visit the aquarium or hop on a steam train to Haverthwaite station.
Within a 30-minute drive are attractions to suit everyone, such as Hill Top, the home of Beatrix Potter, or Brockhole, an adventure centre offering high ropes adventures, archery, laser clay shooting, mini golf and much more, suffice to say if you are looking for a great base to explore the Lake District, Methera Cottage will tick all the boxes.

Outgate itself is a quaint and quiet little hamlet located on the outskirts of Ambleside. There is a friendly pub a few yards away, and if you enjoy walking then there are paths and walks which you can pick up from the doorstep. The cottage is ideally located offering easy access to popular towns such as Ambleside which offers a great selection of independent shops, great pubs and cafés, and a variety of restaurants. In addition, it also has a couple of cinemas, and for the active amongst you a climbing wall.
Other popular towns such as Grasmere, Hawkshead and Coniston are a short drive away, as are famous lakes such as Windermere and Coniston. For water sports enthusiasts there are a variety of pastimes including sailing, paddle boarding, and kayaking to name a few. Maybe you’d prefer to cruise across Windermere on a boat cruise or hire a motor boat?
