Little Esthwaite Cottage rests on the shores of the majestic Esthwaite Water, in the village of Near Sawrey, which boasts a superb local public house and the National Trust property of Hill Top, the home of Beatrix Potter. The cottage sits in the original grounds of the house where Beatrix Potter spent her childhood summers and where Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny came into being.
The interior is very well laid out with a well-equipped kitchen/dining room. Two steps up to the separate living room with a wood burner for those cosy evenings. From the living room, doors open onto a private enclosed patio providing views across the fields to Esthwaite Water. There is also a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Outside is a landscaped garden with lawns and mature borders, shared with the adjoining property, where you can admire the breathtaking views towards the Langdale Pikes, Old Man of Coniston, Wetherlam and Crinkle Crags. There are walks directly from the property and it is just a short walk across the meadow to the shores of Esthwaite Water, where you can wander along the water’s edge, with trout and pike fishing available. Esthwaite Water is thought to have been Beatrix Potter’s favourite lake and inspired her creation of the character Jeremy Fisher. For bird watchers, an osprey pair have also been spotted fishing regularly at the lake in recent summers.
The cottage is well situated for Tarn Hows and the pretty village of Hawkshead, alternatively you could take the ferry across to Bowness-on-Windermere, where steamers on Lake Windermere run up to Ambleside or down to the steam railway at Lakeside.
Coniston Water, once host to the infamous speed record attempt of Donald Campbell in his craft ‘Bluebird’, is just a short drive. Beach 12 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant within ¼ mile.

Squirrel’s Nest is a superb second floor apartment at Badgers Rake, perched in an enviable position above the village of Ambleside with magnificent views over Loughrigg and the Fairfield Horseshoe. Ideal either for a peaceful and relaxing break or as a fantastic starting point for stunning walks.

The living room has a sunny aspect with large picture window giving stunning views over the village to distant fells. There is a long mirror above the fire, occasional tables and lamp, independent overhead lights and concealed lighting. The kitchen offers everything you require should you want to cook, and you will find patio doors leading to a glass fronted balcony with seating. A large dining table and matching oak cabinets complement the dining area. Both bedrooms enjoy views of Wansfell, and bedroom is furnished with Italian furniture.

It’s within easy walking distance of all the local shops, bars and restaurants that Ambleside has to offer. Not often do you find a property with a large communal garden with a designated BBQ area, spectacular scenery and off road parking so close to the centre of the village.

This ideal walkers’ apartment is centrally located in the popular town of Ambleside, in fact there are many places you can explore by just walking from your doorstep! It may be a studio apartment, but you are not short of space and comfort, the cosy living area, with its electric wood burner, is an ideal place to relax in after a full days outing. There is a dining area if you decide to stay in, but with so many of Ambleside’s renowned eating places a stone’s throw away, it will be hard not to step back out over the threshold. After a night’s sleep in the comfortable bed, step into the superb shower room for an invigorating start to your day. If you fancy a hearty breakfast, the kitchen has everything you need, and don’t worry about the washing up as the dishwasher will take care of that. Delve into your guide books and walking maps, and you will be ready for discovering the area, be it Lake Windermere, the ferry terminal is just a short walk away, or the spectacular 70-foot waterfall at Stock Ghyll Force, which is well worth a visit. Ambleside has plenty of dog friendly inns, so after an excellent days walking, you and your pooch can sit back, enjoy a local ale and some good Lakeland food. Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. The tarn is an ideal place for recreation, group activities or a quiet stroll through the mature woodlands. Walby Farm Park is ideal for families and Lanercost Priory is also within close proximity. Whilst there, enjoy afternoon tea or lunch at the café where your dog is welcome too.
No stay in Cumbria is complete without visiting Hadrian’s Wall, an iconic monument built by the Romans. Stretching 73 miles from Wallsend near Newcastle, across the neck of England to the Solway coast in North West Cumbria. Why not walk alongside a stretch of the wall or cycle along the well-known Coast to Coast (C2C) route? Take a drive and within 20 minutes you can be in the beautiful border city of Carlisle, with its array of high street shopping. Within 30 minutes you could be over the border into Scotland or the Lake District National Park. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.
