The pretty village of Cartmel is just a short drive away, or why not catch a lake cruise from Newby Bridge Pier, it really is the best way to see Windermere. Dunmail House is the ideal holiday home for visiting the Lake District National Park, as you are not far from any of the main routes to take you around the Lakes, and Lake Windermere is only 9 miles away. Other nearby places include Holker Hall, Sizergh Castle, Grizedale Forest and the Lakeland Motor Museum. Kendal, Bowness and Windermere are 30 minutes away.
The limestone outcrop of Humphrey Head and its nature reserve, where the last wolf in England was allegedly seen in 1390, is just under 2 miles away. Cartmel village, famous for its ancient priory is two miles away. It is also the home of a popular racecourse, hosting events throughout the year. Not forgetting the famous sticky toffee pudding shop and L’enclume, a Michelin-starred restaurant.
The charming Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands is a short drive or train ride away. Today, the town has much to offer the visitor including a traffic-free promenade, ornamental gardens and a golf course. Set amidst the southern lakes, the small village of Cark in Cartmel makes a superb base from which to enjoy the whole of the Lake District.
